Stinging Arrows for Throwing Spear?

The unique One Ring rules set invites tinkering and secondary creation. Whilst The One Ring works brilliantly as written, we provide this forum for those who want to make their own home-brewed versions of the rules. Note that none of these should be taken as 'official'.

Why assume just one? Someone who routinely hunts with the javelin is likely to carry several in a quiver-like rig, so why not the same with throwing spears? This is especially true if the spears are intended for warfare and/or the character is mounted.
Because of 2 Encumbrance per spear?

It does seem to me that the use of a quiver or holster for spears should allow for a reduction of the total Encumbrance, perhaps by a value of 2, so that 3 spears could be carried for a total Encumbrance of 4 instead of 6. But this wouldn't even be a significant factor if the wielder was mounted with the quiver carried by the mount.

I also think you're envisioning much smaller spears than I am, and you're probably doing so from a position of much greater historical knowledge. The "spear" I'm envisioning would be awkward, to say the least, slung in a quiver. No wussy little javelins for me; I'll take cool visuals over historical accuracy any day.

(And don't even get me started on warhammers...)

Well, a standard Spear is notably shorter and lighter than a Great Spear in any case (though still around six feet long for most races; a hobbit's Spear might be more like four feet long), with fully half the Encumbrance. A quiver intended to hold several Spears would be fairly good-sized itself and might be more practically carried on a mount than on a person, but it could be worn across the back. It would likely be taken off one's back to access the weapons.

Unless this innocuous 'quiver' were also a spring-loaded, rapid-fire, spear launcher. Just bend over, pate toward the baddies, and pull the rip cord.

PJ totally should have hired me as a cinematic consultant.

I can totally see Orlando Bloom doing it.

That said, I have something of a curiosity...
do we have some historical precedent for a quiver of javelins from late ancient/medieval Europe (whence most of inspiration for M-e comes).
I mean, if Jon has to draw it...

I just googled "Quiver of Spears" and got almost entirely quivers of arrows.

So, based on one of the images, I tried "basket of spears". Most of the results fell into two categories:
1) Asparagus-related
2) Brittany Spears

I laughed.

I know that lances would be carried on a horse in some sort of holster rig, though a jousting lance would be closer to a great spear than a spear or javelin meant to be thrown.
