Most amusing results of an Eye roll/failure

Post by Captain Curmudgeon » Sat Feb 10, 2018 10:27 pm

This thread is spawned by something that just happened in a Play by Post game I am a part of.

Our Fellowship just went through a Hazard (cold rainstorm) while descending the east side of the Misty Mountains. Our Dwarf failed his fatigue roll and his player decided that he should catch a nasty cold as a result of hiking all day through the cold downpour.

Later that afternoon, after the weather had cleared, the party made camp in the eastern foothills of the Misty Mountains. The Barding character (me) approaches one of the Ranger characters and asks about the possibility of any healing plants that may be growing in the area. Meanwhile, our Hobbit character, concerned for the well-being of our Dwarf companion, decides to cook up a hearty stew to help the Dwarf feel better, and uses the Healing skill--which he has no pips in. So he rolls only the Feat die and yes, you guessed it--our Hobbit rolls an EYE! We haven't resolved this yet, so right now we're making jokes about how the Dwarf is allergic to the stew or how the Hobbit has accidentally poisoned our Dwarven companion. We have a good group and everyone tries to make the failures just as interesting and (sometimes) fun as our successes, which tends to make for some good stories!

Anybody else have some good stories of interesting or fun results of an Eye roll/failure?

I threw an axe at a dwarf companion that just lost his weapon in combat. Eye on my athletics roll. We had to roll an attack. Gandalf. He was wounded when the axe embeded itself in his shoulder. He was ranting about the treachery of woodmen for quite a while afterwards. How dwarves were unable to manage their axes became a recurring joke in the party.

An eye in an encounter with thranduil reuslted in them saying to him that if he didn't want to help he would simply be showing what was already obvious: that elves had no place in ME and swhould have departed (or become extinct) quite a long time ago. I think they went overboard with their Eye interpretation, but was fun. And deadly.

While visiting the Eagles after a rescue from an Orc attack.
One player failed Courtesy with an eye, so the rock he thought he was sitting on turned out to be an egg!!
He was not part of the interaction after that... And the other players had to succeed with some Inspire to make the Eagle spare his life.
One game to rule them all: TOR

Berethin the Healer entered a long abandoned storage room in an effort to discover an orc that had escaped from an earlier battle. The room was full of rotting, old barrels and crates. Deciding to stealth over the top of the crates to see what was on the far side, he rolled an Eye. His one leg broke through the crate and so he was forced to roll Athletics to free himself before the orc, alerted by the noise, reached him. Berethin rolled yet another Eye and had to fight the orc while severely hindered because he now had both legs stuck in wooden crates. That happened more than two years ago and we still laugh about it.

Berethin, but mostly because his companions came to his aid. He is still a character in my PbP game and to this day the boxes remain his most memorable foe. :D

Not amusing but the most recent goes as follows...

Thogrim, a dwarf and one of the PCs in my campaign, was taking part in the Grand Melee during the festivities at Dale and had reached the final. This year I was running it a little different with knock-out bouts rather than a free-for-all and so he was facing Elstan, First Captain of Dale, in single combat. Thogrim won the final bout but he rolled an EoS on his winning blow; I judged this to have therefore been a particularly vicious attack which the crowd witnessed and therefore booed the dwarf and his underhanded attack on their respected Captain. It didn't bother Thogrim too much, he'd won the gold after all! Well, at least until he was robbed of that during the feast later. :)
