GenCon, More Games to get in?

Post by crimso » Mon May 20, 2013 4:56 pm

We tried for some Friday and Saturday games, they are all sold out. Will there be more games coming on Saturday evening? I have a group of 4 of us and we know the system, looking to play at the Con.

I am still upset from yesterdays Gen Con events. I didnt get any Cubicle7 games, I had never looked more forward to Gen Con, only to get shut out. I can only hope there will be more games added, I so wanted to finally play TOR once in my life time. Err....

You are not alone.... 0 for 10... and no sympathy from GenCon itself. Their reply seems to be "Supply and demand.. suck it up and deal with it."

If anyone is really chapped about not getting games, write a RESPECTFUL email to them and ask that they reduce the number of Wish List items down to 3-5 and the number of tickets purchased to no more than TWO per game. This makes it a bit more fair for people to get into games. It DOES restrict the ability of an entire group getting into a specific game (but doesn't eliminate the possibility).

I went to GenCon last year and I was in the same boat as you guys. All the TOR games were taken. But, I went to the rooms where they were being played and watched. If someone does not show up at the table on time, you can jump into a game. You need to purchase game tickets out in the hallway first, but that is no big deal. Me and my friend were able to get in on the first game we went to on Thursday. I think this happens because there are so many things to do and see at GenCon, people change their mind once they are there. So, I would still be hopeful!

Another thing, the hotels and the convention center are spacious and set up for gaming with tables, etc. If you really wanted to, you could gather a few TOR fans together (meet some new people!) and play an adventure without needing to get in on the paid games. It is the perfect place for that! I was only there Thursday and Friday and it seemed like forever. There is plenty of time to enjoy all of GenCon and some roleplaying too.

I only wish I could be there this year :(

I'd personally love to attend a TOR specific convention like the Ambercon's I used to attend for the Amber DRPG. Then we'd get to meet each other and play TOR games all weekend!

Seriously, I would just want to watch since I can't get into a TOR game, if someone is wanting to run
it on the side, I would love to join as well.

I have bought Generic tickets in case anyone backs out but I'm not holding my breath, though I would love to watch and take notes so I could run one back home and start getting into TOR for real.

I will take your advice and see if anything changes for next year, I know this affects entire groups but what about the one or two people that don't have a group and really want to try an official game? That isn't fair IMHO.
I am not just saying that because I didn't get in, I think it's not fair across the board.
