Doesn't work for me though - get an 'unexpected error' when converting to PDF using Word which is why I use some PDF convert software for this document, which doesn't maintain bookmarks. ... Not wasting time faffing with it further though!

About Bookmarks:
You could also send the latest pdf and I put the bookmarks in there manually.
Then you just replace it.

It might be a little annoying over time (for either of us), but if nothing else works.

Hi Rich H, I just spotted an error I made with the Men of the Lake backgrounds, I gave two of them the same Attribute array.

When you get around to it can you change the A PLACE IN THE STORIES one with the following:

Body 6, Heart 6, Wits 2.

My bad.

As to splitting it into two copies, A player one and a Lore Master one, I think that might be a good idea. What do other folk think?

Still can't access the updated version of this (just get a white screen, doesn't load even after hours!!) - perhaps if you reloaded it onto Dropbox??

I managed to get it to work by copying everything in the link after 'dropbox.com' then pasting it onto the end of the URL while I was on the dropbox homepage

Tried that - I get the '404' message....

Dropbox, due to recent security concerns, changed how file links are handled on newly opened accounts; existing accounts are automatically grandfathered. New accounts can toggle the old functionality (I think) but you need to do something on Dropbox's end with Public Folders - I'm not sure what it entails.

The really short version of the problem is the File ID's used by Dropbox for file download links used an algorithm that was too easy to figure out. Having a single link you could, (as a false example) go ID+2=next file and effectively walk through all of the user's files even if they didn't intend to give you access to all of them. I may be incorrect, but that is how I understood things.

Effectively this seems to have kind of broken direct download links for newer accounts. Showing an empty Dropbox PDF display page, but not a 404.

Right now, in order to download from Dropbox, I'm finding I need to enable javascript, wait until the PDF window loads and displays the file, and then click on the Download button. Rather than my old, right click on the PDF link and choose Download File from the context menu. Doing that I'm downloading a blank HTML page.

Anyone using NoScript or other privacy / security type addons may experience problems with Dropbox access because of this issue. Go through the normal "the website doesn't work... what do I need to turn back on?" process. Cookies are not required.

I'm not sure why you're getting a 404 if you're clicking on the link currently within Rich H's signature. Maybe you're clicking on an old, outdated link? I was getting a 404 for awhile, before Rich posted the update. If you get the 404 again, try Control + F5 after getting to the 404 page. It forces the current page to reload from the originating website, ignoring the browser's cached copy of the website and any old data that may be stored there. Hopefully between these two ideas something works for you.

The current version ends with a PDF error on page 42. Just thought I'd mention it.

Well, it's clearly spelled out as a PDF stack error in the PDF itself. It'd be rather strange if that was due to anything on my end. No problem though, I'll just wait for your next update.

Okay, I've loaded it again just in case., then cleared my cache, and it loads up okay - ie, 60 pages. Hope it works for you when you next try it.

This is an awesome body of works. It looks great. From the responses here I would have to believe that these things are playable and not unbalancing.

I am not one to rely on lots of house rules to augment the native system, but sometimes its necessary and essential.

I've run the game with these house rules and pretty much used all of them (with the exception of the chapter on Battles) and they work extremely well - no balance issues, problems, or anything. I'd confidently recommend their usage in any TOR game.

Version 1.2 of PDF now uploaded - contains additional adversaries by 'Poosticks7'.

I used the Battles rules (although not strictly adhered to) for running Shadow Over Dale, and they worked well.

I recommend James R Brown's Mythic Battles ruleset. They *are* more complex but in my opinion the pay off is well worth it. I think they're better than the ones in this supplement. YMMV!

Correction: those were the ones I used, I think (the pdf is called "Mass Combat Rules"). I mistakenly assumed they were the same as the ones in the Additional Rules doc.

I think there are 3 sets doing the rounds...

1) The rules in my PDF collection

2) Another by James titled Mass Combat Rules

3) And finally Mythic Battles by James

I think all are different. I was referring to the Mythic Battle ones. I'm sure the others are fine though.

Found it! Thanks for the tip. The battle breakdowns will be especially useful as we move through TfW. We've just done the battle in WotW, and it went well.

Ovid, the Battle system in Rich's compilation was written by Ashley, I think. I wrote Mass Combat Rules (it was my first attempt at a battle system and I recently reformatted it in December). Then, Eluadin and I conspired and I wrote Mythic Battles from an entirely different angle. My docs are always available from my blog site. You can find the link in my signature.

Hey there James, I'm reading such glowing reports about the battle system that Eluadin and you put together. I'd love to be able to give an opinion but my I Pad is experiencing serious difficulties in downloading it.
Is there any chance that you would have a text only version available, without the surrounds, artwork etc?

I'd second that. Currently don't have broadband at home so I'm reading stuff on my smartphone, which strangely, isn't too smart!

Okay, made some more additions to this. Version 1.3 changes:

* Herbs section: Moved Wild Persimmons and Carefree Mustard around and enhanced the effects of Athelas.

* Added an Additional Healing section based on rules suggestions from myself and Rocmistro.

* Added Greaves and Vambraces to the New Weapons and Armour section.
