[I was going to deliberately misspell the title as 'noisey' but thought better of it] tongue.gif

How old are we all and how many years have we all been gaming?

... Nearly 40 years old here and gaming since I was about 9. Started with Tunnels & Trolls:

Age: 41
Been playing for over 25 years(not continuous), with the same group from high school.

Top 3 favourite games. Hmm, tough one, I would have to say (in no particular order)
1)L5R
2)Pendragon
3) My third choice is based only a reading of the rules, I haven't had a chance to run or play a game, however I am currently working on setting up a PbP for some memebers of my above mentioned group, but it seems to have all the aspect I look for in a game-Yggdrasill.

I'm 35 and been playing on and off since I was 16 (D&D Rules Encyclopedia).

My current favourites are:

1. The One Ring
2. Call of Cthulhu (includes Delta Green and The Laundry)
3. This is a tough one. I love Unknown Armies and Wild Talents/Godlike for the way they read, but for playing I think I'll go with Star Wars Saga Edition or Hollow Earth Expedition. Hmmm.

I'm 39, started out early (1981-2) playing CoC and RQ. I still hold both as two of my favorites.

Picking Titles for a favorite-list is like picking favorites between your children... horror... but if you force my hand I'll say:

1. Call of Cthulhu
2. Pendragon
3. Rune Quest

WFRP lists very high in my book as well... but since they botched it with this last edition I'm considering washing my hands from that game. :-(

Older than everyone else who has posted an age so far.

Playing and running games for 30 years. Started with AD&D.

Favourites in no particular order.

The One Ring
Hollow Earth Expeditions(Pulp Adventure!)
Dragon Age(Stunt Dice!)
Mutants & Masterminds
Alternity(Dark Matter setting made that game)
Call of Cthulhu

Most important factor in the game of course is the group. If you're having fun, the game will be fun).

And I started about 2 years ago with D&D Fourth Edition.
Posting my favourites is probably moot as all I've played is D&D and TOR

A few months shy of 40.
Started gaming around '81 with D&D.

Favorite games in no particular order (I play or run all 3 regularly):
-Call of Cthulhu
-Pendragon
-The One Ring

Looking forward to trying in the next few months:
-Yggdrasill (have the PDF and registered for a game at GenCon)
-Dresden Files (picking it up at GenCon)
-Diaspora (own it)

Ran a game of Barbarians of Lemuria 2 weeks ago. It's great for a pick up game.

I'm 35, and I've played rpgs since I was 15.

I tend to rate rpgs within their genre, so here are the ones I most enjoy (although I don't play all of these at once, of course):

Fantasy: The One Ring & Iron Kingdoms RPG (waiting like a kid on christmas for the new IK RPG, but living in Norway, I can't just go to GenCon and pick it up...)

Modern: Spycraft 2.0 & Call of Chtulhu (Delta Green being a favorite for CoC)

Science Fiction: Eclipse Phase and Star Wars (with Eclipse Phase, I love the setting, but the rules just doesn't work for me)

Edit: How could I forget Blue Planet under sci-fi?? Shame on me! tongue.gif

Strangely enough, I'm just about to start a campaign in Rogue Trader. The Warhammer 40k setting is a bit too over-the-top for me, but my players are fanboys, so I thought I'd give it a shot. tongue.gif

Wow, I'm only 24 next month. Been playing since I was maybe 14, started with Decipher's Lord of the Rings Roleplaying Game, actually, and Star Wars d20 (my Dad was against D&D at the time). A little later I got the Marvel Universe Role-Playing Game.

In college I started playing D&D and GMing, I've played and GM'd the Mistborn Adventure Game (interesting, but I didn't really like it) and The One Ring. I'm looking into buying Burning Wheel and Marvel Heroic Roleplaying. I actually design games more than I play them*.

*(I don't mean to self-promote, but if you're interested, I just started a blog on which, among other things, I am designing a d20 game which borrows heavily from TOR, combined with my own innovations. Matters of Critical Insignificance)

Call of Cthulhu
James Bond
Milleniums End

There are some great games being listed, its nice to see such a variety.

Winter Phase - my players love/hate it!

I think Pendragon has a lot a themes and values running through it that are shared with The One Ring. I know, before TOR came out I was working on putting together a LotR system using Pendragon as a strong basis.

Turning forty-one in a few months, I found roleplaying games at the tender age of nine - Basic D&D - as part of a fourth-grade class in public school no less.

Nearest and dearest to my heart....?

1. TOR
2. MERP (This has been supplanted by TOR, but it introduced me to roleplaying in Tolkien's Middle-earth. And, the first time you never forget!)
3. Chaqsium 1st Edition Stormbringer

Dabbled, delved and deviated from a number of other games along the way to TOR. These days for me, most roleplaying games being released have little appeal. Last year after all the traffic on this forum referring to Mouse Guard, I picked that up to play one day when the kids are older.

Regards,
E

It was a tough sell for me to suggest playing something other than The Great Pendragon Campaign - we'd left it last year after just finishing the Uther Period so my players were really gearing up to stake a claim as major Knights of Salisbury, defending their lands from the saxons and other groups. I'm sure we'll go back to it at some time - hopefully soon.

Mouse Guard looks to be an awesome RPG. Only read it so I have a rule that I can't list games I haven't played as favourites, but I suspect I'd love playing/GMing it.

I'm running The Great Pendragon Campaign IRL right now, been going every Thursday since March this year.

We love it.

My group rotates between The Great Pendragon Campaign and The One Ring. We play every other Sunday night and have for the last years.

Someone else runs Pendragon and I run The One Ring. We play one for 3 or 4 weeks and the switch off to the other for 3 or 4 weeks.

Rich it's funny you said you were working on a Middle Earth version of Pendragon before The One Ring. I was doing the same. I was working on mapping out the Traits and Passions.

Me too... Also, Renown instead of Glory (and how it accrued), different skills, weapons, racial stat bonuses, etc. Was also thinking about some kind of Hope mechanic but hadn't called it that - I referred to it as Morale but was never happy with that term.

Garbar,
I was very interested in Dragon Age, but this was when only the first box was out. It didn't seem like there was much material for a campaign. Was I wrong and has this changed?

I haven't played Dragon Age, do you think that will detract from the game?

Really, it isn't. And please lets not go there as such statements aren't really approproriate for this thread. Thanks.

Templar72
They have released a GM Screen with one large adventure in it and Blood In Ferelden which has three adventures and three adventure seeds.

The campaign stalled a bit because I was struggling to write stuff at the time... lack of inspiration to be honest!

Part of the problem was that I had played Dragon Age, but my players hadn't, so they did not know what to expect.

So I started searching the internet and found a lot of fan stuff out there. Not just adventures and new monsters, but complete worlds using the AGE system.

I found Mystara (D&D Basic world), Age Of Conan and... Star Wars, but there are probably others!

When I resume that game, I'm going to reboot it. Keep the characters, but forget about the official Dragon Age world and probably use the Mystara setting, I used to have the Gazetteers for that and loved the setting.

Anyway, you would probably like a link, so....

http://www.dragonageoracle.com

Start there and explore. You can find links to Mystara, Age of Conan and Star Wars along with a lot of other stuff.

Obviously, Green Ronin has stuff too, including character sheets, previews etc.

http://greenronin.com/dragon_age/

And they even have a free quick start guide to download. That has basic rules, pregen characters and a short adventure.

http://www.greenronin.com/store/product/grr2800e.html

Kobold Quarterly has done some articles on it too, but I don't have them all and can't pass judgement on them.

So in answer to your question... no... not having played the computer game will not detract from the Dragon Age at all.

The rules are generic enough to apply to any setting, so pick something you know or make up your own game.

Hope that helps you out. Just talking about it has made me want to play again wink.gif
