Hi,

As many have said before, Jon Hodgson's illustrations are great, and I would love to be able to use his paintings of the various s of Middle Earth during games. However, finding them in the books isn't very convenient, and all the big ones are split in two. I'd like to suggest either gathering them in a large album with a convenient index, or, even better, allowing us to buy A4 or A3 high quality prints.

Mmm. That makes me think about The One Ring merchadising: posters, mugs and t-shirts. It would be really nice.

Yeah they would make a great addition to my big ME map and Gandalf paintings!

Really nice and probably illegal.
They may have the right to publish RPG books, but I'd be surprised they can do more.

Not illegal as such, but outside the terms of the license we work with. But hey. Thanks for the kind thoughts!

In other news I'm up in the Highlands of Scotland and I have shot over 500 reference photographs for various Middle-earth things, and am grabbing a rare moment on wifi.

Oh I envy you Jon!
I hope you get the opportunity to visit the Isle of Skye. IMO it is great inspiration for Middle Earth areas such as Rhudaur & the Ettenmoors, uplands of northern Misty Mtns (both E & W slopes), the sources of the Anduin, Ered Mithrin or Angren, plus marshes, bogs, etc.

As my heritage lies in Skye -but I'm stuck in Antipodean climes- I resort to web-views of Skye's amazingly fantastical landscapes (also used in recent movies like Prometheus and Snow White & the Huntsman).

You can check out Isle of Skye online of course ..... I suggest that Old Man of Storr is a must see!
Slainte! wink.gif

Skye is amazing, I've been a few times. This time I was based near Cairn Gorm, and was at the top yesterday in glorious weather.

Something really useful I've been looking at, in addition to the usual research of "big stuff" like the Loch Tay Crannog, which was a really useful resource for Laketown a few years back, has been gathering images for those big "empty" landscapes, that can happily sit in the blank parts of the map whilst still being interesting and engaging. I'm full of inspiration, and will try and post some photos and sketches later on. We're now into the full GenCon prep time though, so it might be a little while.

I'm resurrecting this topic to express my interest in being able to buy some Hodgson prints, specifically the cover to Words of the Wise. Is there really no way to make that happen?

Any thoughts appreciated!

Thanks!

I will point out that several of the images are on Jon's Deviantart. And I'm sure if you didn't tell anyone you printed them out (Probably cheaper than prints) no one would object. Same with the PDFs of the books. If you have programs like Illustrator you can extract images to print.

Though I too, would love a buyable book of just the art. "The Art of TOR"

I recently commissioned Jon to paint 5 pieces of artwork based on my gaming group's PCs:

A Man of Dale, Brand
A Dwarf, Thogrim Stonehammer
An Elf, Gilbrannon
A Woodman, Iwgar
And then a group shot of the 4 characters

Ordered muliple prints of each and been REALLY happy with the results! cool.gif

Nope. Can't be done: Art prints are covered under a separate license.

Thanks for the vote of confidence though! smile.gif

Or, publish them in a volume of art dedicated to Middle-earth. It would fit in alongside Tolkien's own, Howe's, and a few others I imagine!
