Hello,
This might sound like a dumb question, but it actually came up when my friends and I got togehter to test the mechanics this past weekend.

When making an attack, is the attack successful when you;

1) Match the TN of the defender?
or....
2) Exceed the TN of the defender?

Thanks for the clarification

For the time being, I made a call that when the TN is matched the attack is successful, as I read itto it in the rules based on the "CALLED SHOT"

I was going to say its a Target Number so the number is the target but thought i would look it up anyway.

p151 ADVB number 6 second column, "If the total action is equal or superior to the Target Number, the action is a sucess."

Also, the TN is set by the combat stance/attitude taken by the player-hero. In this sense, TN is independent of the notion defender or attacker.

A roll for a task must "equal or exceed" the Target Number (pg 151, step 6 of the Detailed Die Roll Sequence).

The appropriate Target Numbers for combat feature on page 158 of the Adventurer's Book, and as mentioned above are set by the attacker's stance.

Hope that helps!

is it the 'match or beat' portion of the rule that is making problems? Very strange, I got that phrasing from the Doctor Who rpg, and it made a lot of sense to me.

I dont think the phrasing was a problem, just that the poster couldnt find the exact ruling when he needed it.
