Hi Guys,

Well, having read everything twice, I thought I'd set in and create a character - Tobold Burrows, Hobbit of the Shire, Treasure Hunter (to quote from his business card wink.gif ).

I think I've got most of it right, but one thing I can't work out, despite looking up every instance of 'Damage' in the new, super-duper, downloadable index, is what I need to write in the 'Damage' box on the character sheet.

I've also spotted (I think?) at least one omission. Though there's somewhere to record 'Shadow' points, there's no way to differentiate between 'temporary' and 'permanent' shadow points.

And I'm a bit confused about encumbrance/fatigue. Okay, each item of gear has an encumbrance rating, and they're added up, as I understand it. Travelling equipment also has a rating (1 or 2, depending on season) - is that always added on, or only when travelling?

Thanks,
Phil

The number that goes in the damage box is equal to your body stat. (there are ways to raise both your melee and ranged damage through virtues as well).

weapons and armour (oh and treasure I think) = your encumbrance value

Your travel gear encumbrance rating is the number you add to the encumbrance rating when you fail a travel roll during the traveling stage*

*I think I'm remembering that right, I'm not near my book at the moment.

^ What he said

Though the addition of fatigue from travel gear is a bit confusing now that Francesco has some revised journey rules. Apparently it should only be added at the end of an entire leg (I think) of a journey. And then halved if the players are using transport. In regards to shadow points... I think you just have to make sure you always have a minimum number once you gain permanent ones.

Wow, I'm unhelpful tongue.gif

When you get permanent Shadow you mark it X/Y where X is temporary and Y is permanent. Pg 59 Loremaster's Book (a little hard to find)

You could record them separately by using my scratch sheet:

Just leave 'em on there.

The only time encumbrance from Travelling Gear comes into play is on failed Fatigue tests. "Players only take into consideration the Encumbrance rating of their travelling gear when they are using the rules for resolving a Journey" (AB, 76).

"For each failed Fatigue test, an adventurer sees his Fatigue score increased by a number of points equal to the Encumbrance of his Travelling gear" (LB, 34).

Calculating Fatigue during hero creation normally equals "the sum of the Encumbrance ratings of the adventurer's selection of weapons and protective gear" (AB, 104).

The main difference being that Travellling gear adds (and can continue to add) to your Fatigue score with every failed Fatigue test. Weapons and protective gear as well as treasure add to your Fatigue score as a function of carrying, I.e., you carry them therefore they add to your Fatigue.

Hope that helps in some way...

Regards,
E

This is correct, but to clarify this box is for a character's "Damage Rating". Please see the following topic for an explanation of the term as it's used inconsistently.
