Howdy
This question may have been asked six months ago, but with so many new and eager TOR fans, maybe the answer has changed since then (apologies if you've seen it before)? There are some example characters in the TOR books that have pretty pictures and nice background text, but are somewhat, erm, variable in terms of the stats... Has anyone got a set of character stats available that match the images from the book (so I can use said images and backgrounds) and that are more cleverly put together to show off the system a little more positively? Sure, I can do my own, and writing characters is fun, but I'd rather not reinvent the wheel, so has anyone done this already? Thanks! Gaz |

I'm confused by what you mean by 'variable in terms of stats' and what they have to do with the pictures...

I'm confused as well. I get that Gaz would like to know if any of us have made characters based on the pictures of the samples characters from the TOR Adventurers book. What I don't get is what he thinks is wrong with the ones that already exist
I haven't used the pre gens and certainly haven't checked the mathematical builds of them. Are their skill ranges not suitably diverse? Have some of them got too many points(or too few) in their build? |

Yeah, confused here too... Especially the "more cleverly put together to show off the system a little more positively" bit. Do you want origami character sheets or something?

I'll be honest and say as its six months ago now, I can't remember what shook out of the game we played (using Words to the Wise or Marsh Bell), but from what I can recall, some of the character didn't have dots in the skills that they'd need to use (like one has no Travel skill, but you'd want to show off Journeys).
It'd take more effort to work out what we didn't think worked than it would to just make some more characters, so I'm not going to sweat it! Either someone's got some cool characters for me or they don't - its not biggie - just thought I'd try and save myself some work! |

I doubt anyone's redone the pre-gen characters Gaz, but if you go to the Actual Play threads in my signature then the first few posts have starting PCs that my players created - those could be used in some instances. -------------------- 1) The Fellowship of the Free - a TOR Actual Play thread: http://cubicle7.clicdev.com/f/index.php?tr...&showtopic=3424

I'll give them a gander. Example characters are always good, even for use as NPCs - cheers! |

Evilgaz:
I'm not sure if this answers your questions, but what I found as GM during the first adventure path was the following: -Each player should start play with at least 2 ranks in a melee weapon skill and 2 ranks in a missile weapon skill. The 2 ranks (secondary weapon) are not absolutely critical, but it gives you combat options, and most of my players like having options. I suspect yours are similar. Important Common Skills: -Travel (2 ranks) is CRITICAL. -Battle (2 ranks) highly recommended. -Athletics (1 rank) CRITICAL and 2 ranks highly recommended. -Awareness (1 rank) CRITICAL and 2 ranks highly recommended. -Song or Craft (by the end of first fellowship phase, ie, during Heroic Development) 2 ranks is CRITICAL to reliably heal shadow/corruption. -Your Party Travelling Role (Explore, Awareness, Hunting or Travel): whichever one is your role, having 2 ranks is CRITICAL. -Awe or Courtesy. 1 rank is CRITICAL and 2 ranks are highly recommended in one of these skills if you want to have a party hope of succeeding at social encounters before exceeding tolerance. After that, the players can fill in the blanks of Common Skills so that all skills are covered, but EVERYONE really needs to have the skills mentioned above. |

I have used the existing pregens and they work fine. I didnt have an issue with them lacking in a few skills, as this features the importance of those skills and they make up for it in other ways.

Yeah, that wasn't exactly my question, but you're right on with the list. If I'm running a demo game, I want all the characters to have a good level in the right skills. Your list is a good starter, and then of course its a matter of making sure you've got things covered for any rolls you're going to be asking for during the adventure you run. I'm currently having fun with the online character creation thingy, so its all good at the minute! Flicking backwards and forward through the books we frustrating me but the app is making it much more fun. |
