In the other games I run (Call of Cthulhu, Hackmaster & Dungeon Crawl Classics) I have been running these games using critical hit charts and the like.
Now, I have not run/played this game yet so was curious as to how critical hits are dealt with. Are there hit s and various damages for each ...depending on damage? I have the core set and never even opened it yet! I am buying a new core set and will be keeping the original as a collector. My group is going to take a break from playing Call of Cthulhu, been running it for 6 years in a row, and is moving to The One Ring. I figure now that the The Hobbit movie is almost here what better time is there to start a Middle Earth rpg |

Weapons do a fixed damage rating which is taken from endurance. A higher level of success on the dice, and the character's Body rating (damage bonus) is added to the endurance loss. An extraordinary success will add double the damage bonus to the weapon's damage rating.
Critical hits happen when the player rolls the weapon's edge score or over on the Feat die (the d12). The opponent can make a protection test (based on their armour rating) versus the weapon's injury rating to avoid a wound. -------------------- Current EU RPG Group Games: European FG2 RPG Friday (8pm to 11pm UK time; Ultimate License) - Classic Traveller Sunday (8pm to 11pm UK time; Ultimate License) - The One Ring: Adventures over the Edge of the Wild Using Ultimate FGII and can accept unlicensed player connections on some of the games. ----------------- LOTRO - Brandywine Server Halbras - Hobbit Hunter / Jonab - Bree-folk Captain / Ardri - Dwarf Guardian / Halaberiel - Elf Hunter |

Hmmm, I'd recommend reading the book you have bought - that will explain things far better than any of us could and far more completely. Strictly speaking though, Critical Hits are not a part of the Rules as Written (RAW) of this game although I'd argue semantics on this one as I actually think they are prevalent in the form of 'Wounds' (Valarian describes the mechanics of how a Wound could occur in his above post). When a Wound is caused it brings a PC closer to being removed from active play (and potentially dying) or actually removed depending on the character's state of health before receiving the Wound, so I often describe these as grievous blows (ie, critical hits) when they occur in my game. So Critical Hits in the form of a table of results may not be present in the game but the idea of them is, its just that the execution of them is different to games like CoC and DCC, etc. -------------------- 1) The Fellowship of the Free - a TOR Actual Play thread: http://cubicle7.clicdev.com/f/index.php?tr...&showtopic=3424
