Did Dom's scenario get played? If so, what was the response?

Just curious because I haven't seen any reports coming out of Gen Con. Perhaps I just missed them and they are out there.

I have seen several and they are uniformly positive. The most extensive was this one by Piperdog on Troll Lord's forum:

QUOTE
I got to play next to my bud Omote for the Gencon game of TOR, and I have to say I am very impressed with how the mechanics work. I was doubtful at best going in, but it does feel rather ingenius in play. Not only did I enjoy the mechanics, but our gm did a fantanstic job of running the adventure; he made sure to take pains to paint a picture of middle earth, not a stereotypical fantasy setting. In fact, we began our adventure in a village in the wilderlands (Rhovenfel, something like that anyway) and had just spent the winter there. Our gm then took us on an immersive deer hunt, a yearly celebratory event that sent several hunting parties into the forest. We actually tracked, shot, and bagged some deer......no thanks to my dwarf, Beli, and his crashing through the wood. Of course we got ambushed by orcs...not D&D orcs....Middle Earth orcs.....and the gm did a fantastic job of making them feel like abominations we couldn't wait to kill. This was just the intro to a longer tale....more on that later if you wish. In the end, I am very glad I gave it a chance, and am ordering mine from amazon on payday. (60 bucks at the con, 38 on amazon with free shipping...)

QUOTE
I was very much into roleplaying my character, so I was shouting things like "I won't be outdone by a Northman!" as I charged my dwarf into the fray. After the initial ambush, we heard hunting horns calling out in distress from the other hunting parties, and they were suddenly silenced. We rushed into the wood to their aid, and saw some of the npcs we had met earlier either dead or dying at the hand of more orcs. We waded into battle and defeated the rest of the orcs (not without spending a bit of hope!) We noticed they were well armored mountain orcs....but why so far out from their home territory? We knew we had to take an injured pc to Radaghast the Brown, who lived nearbye. Once there, Rhadagast healed the npc and told us they were searching for the Lamp of Bolthi, an elven artifact of the 1st age. A large guilded lantern containing a blue light, that seemed to grant visions to those who stared into its depths, sometimes allowing one to locate the exact of any object they desire....(geez, I wonder why Sauron would want that?) So, while Rhadagast went to relay this to the elven king in Mirkwood, we were sent to the Tomb of Bolthi to safeguard it until his return. Of course, once we got there, we had to defend it against a hell of an assault....this time the orcs had a big ol warchief and an attercop!
That was a major fight right there. The gm did a fantastic job. I wrote his name down somewhere...it was Clinton something.
Anyway, it was a blast, and I enjoyed the system immensely. Time to start shelling out more cash I guess.

Excellent! And boy are you fast lol.

So it was Rhosgobel if Radagast the Brown was in involved smile.gif

Next question - are we going to see this scenario for purchase/download? I am sure I read a while ago Dom said it was being considered, anything firmer being said?

I am working on posting replies before the questions are posted smile.gif It bides the time waiting for my copy of TOR as I am geographically likely to get it last. sad.gif

No news on download on Gencon scenario but I hope so too as it sound awesome.

I have to say it sounds fantastic, and can't wait to see the official version smile.gif I may just use this brief writeup as some inspiration on how I would like to introduce the game to my friend's club (he runs a large club in Southern Denmark for kids where they play RPG's and learn/practice their english, here's a link to more info on his program: Kids Need To Game

Hi Kalan, your link seems to be a dead-end, which is a shame really as I live in Denmark (Ringkobing-Skjern) and would have liked to have read it and maybe even contributed to the programme.

I am a British citizen living and working in Denmark and have often considered organizing something similar in my area.

Dang stupid bracket goofed up the link. Should work now smile.gif

I know Brian would appreciate anything he can get. As he mentions in the "plea" - he's up to a program that includes 5 schools, and around 200kids...so anything will help!

I unfortunately live in Copenhagen, so can't help as much as I'd like. I'm really hoping Brian and I can work the logistics so that I can run something monthly for the older kids. I'm of the mind to start something up in this area as well - as another of my friends does something similar already through his club/school.

Thanks for the link.

I have just sent Brian a message offering some old stuff that I don't use anymore. I've also offered him some of my time if he can use it wink.gif

I played in one of the demos. Having read over the scenario since, I see that our GM actually had us play through some of the prologue as actual play (the stuff around Dol Guldur), then head back to Rhosgobel. A fun scenario that gave a good feel for the fact that this is ME, not a generic fantasy setting.

I'm going to be running the scenario at the local gaming meetup this Saturday. Should be fun.

My son and I did. It was a lot of fun. For those who have played it and are familiar with Tolkien canon is the lantern made up or do I need to go read the appendixes again.

Scott,

I'm not an expert, but I just plugged "lantern" into the Encyclopedia of Arda

http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/

and got nothing, so I'm guessing its made up for the scenario.

And here I am on the boards for the first time! Just wanted to jump in and say I had a blast at GenCon with this scenario. Skywalker already posted what I said over on the Troll Lord boards, so I won't be redundant. I was actually surprised later to find that the GenCon scenario was not an official adventure....but it sure as heck felt like it! I have the pdf and am reading through the rules now, but I can't wait for my hard copy.

I am looking forward to the Lamp of Bolthi being available, as it makes a great intro to the game.

I ran the Gencon demo adventure for four new players at a local RPG meetup this past weekend, and it went very well. Its a nice introduction to the system, with some skill use, journeys, a little combat, and a social encounter.

Last I heard, Dom wanted to tweak it before making it available.

Is the Gen Con scenario likely to be available to buy or free download?

I have a very busy life smile.gif and I like to have a core of scenarios to structure a campaign round.

Which will be good news for Cuibicle 7 's revenues once they have more stuff to sell wink.gif

Agreed! I would love to see the adventure and possibly use it for my own one-shots. Even if it is in somewhat unpolished form.
