If we didn't read the novel, watch the movie, will we able to play the game well?

Yes, any person can be a capable player if they spend some time learning the game mechanics and pay attention to the setting and events of the campaign.
The pen and paper RPG industry has released to date some thousand(s) of corebooks with a couple hundred gaming mechanisms. The vast majority of which were represented by only the gaming material, without any other kind of source material at all, in any other type of media. This has not prevented players from enjoying (and occasionally lampooning) these games. The main issue, is immersing yourself in the events that take place at the gaming table and trying to responding appropriately. Everything else is just gravy. -------------------- Garn!
I have yet to read the books thoroughly. |

Hi all,
This is my first post (I didn't find the introduction thread!). I've been gaming in Middle-earth for some years, but I'm new to this game (in fact, still reading the rulebooks). I have experience with players who had watched only the first film (the only one released when we played) and have no other knowledge of Tokien's work. I can tell you Garn is right! I gave to them an overview of their culture and race and from there their own interest in the gaming world made them learn more. |
