In case you haven't heard, the Dwarven Forge Kickstarter is live and going crazy: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dwarve...onary-miniature

I already have a lot of the existing DF sets and love to use them in my RPGs. I am really thinking our TOR campaign will need to end up in Moria. It would be a memorable end, right?

At the rate they are making stretch goals, they may end up doubling the number of pieces backers get. Not that, uhh, you're in for any materialistic concerns. biggrin.gif

Thanks for sharing. I'm truly considering getting in on that for my Pathfinder groups.

Wow, the expert painted versions look truly inspiring.

Bugger, these look really nice. Problem is I'm already backing Achtung! Cthulhu to the tune of 462 quid so unless I land another contract position this month for work I may not be able to get these.

Wouldn't mind a couple of sets though... Some accessories would be nice too.

EDIT: Crap. Couldn't resist; in for 3 sets. I'm such an easy mark!

Yeah, they do a great job with their painted sets (I have a lot of them).

The KS video shows them painting up really quickly and nicely with a drybrushing, however, since it's pigment-infused dark gray to begin with. It looks like it will be really easy to paint them up if folks don't want to opt for the painted versions.

These are pics from some previous games using the current DF pieces:

Yes, I do love using miniatures in our RPGs!

You won't regret it. And at the rate things are going, your three sets may turn into SIX sets. They keep adding free pieces in for EACH set you're backing. It's like a crazy steeplechase event now: more barriers to be jumped and more prizes at stake.

My applied creativity starts and stops with my writing. Painting is not something I know much about at all - not the terminology or the knowledge of how-to. I did watch the video, and you're right it didn't look too hard.....but if I want the nicer looking set, I have to weigh the cost difference vs the cost of getting the paint/brushes, and learning the techniques and patience to do something like what was shown i the video.

At my Pathfinder Game I have scheduled this Friday night, we are planning to discuss a group order - we're trying to pool enough for the $500.00 (10 sets) pledge. That's only 50 bucks a set for the grey, or $730 for the better painted versions - at $73.00 bucks a set - PLUS all the stretch goal extras......that's a hard deal to pass on. I plan to buy three sets one way or the other - or up to four if we do that group purchase. With five players, that just means that my four friends will have to put in for the last six sets.

Heh - fairly said! There's also the time factor. That's why (a few years ago) I opted for Dwarven Forge over alternatives like Hirst Arts molds. The latter are really cool and offer lots of creative building options, but I would spend MONTHS casting all the little bricks and painting them. Sometimes - often, in my case - I just want to play with my toys, not hand-craft them. wink.gif

But yes, even if you "just" opt for three sets, that's still a good amount of terrain to work with. Sometimes I'll build a whole level/dungeon before the game, but for some games (TOR, for example), I only build areas as we go/as needed. You don't need millions of pieces in that case, since you're not really dungeoncrawling or anything.

We do some dungeoncrawling in our Pathfinder games. Whether it's using a Paizo adventure Path - or I'm in love with Rappan Athuk and running that for groups, or Dungeon Crawl Classics by Goodman Games.

I don't run all combats w/ minis; but some I really like to bust them out, and I've bought hundreds of the pre-painted plastic ones from WotC years ago.

I would love to (already own two large sets) get these but Achtung! Cthulhu has bankrupted me. Good to see these new sets, hopefully it gets even more people into gaming. Awesome job Dwarven Forge!

Tell me about it! Down for £527 on that so far... There's just so much cool stuff that they're offering. To be honest, I'm getting concenred that they will simply struggle to deliver all of it any time soon (ie, within 1 to 2 years). We shall see!

I usually don't do any overseas Kickstarters but Achtung! Cthulhu is just insanely awesome! The shipping fees are keeping my amount smaller than yours, sucks to be in the States for cool stuff like this.

Dwarven Forge is in IL, which so am I. Think they are 5 hours South from me. Crazy world!

I'm just ressurrecting this thread. The project now has 2 weeks left and it's near 3/4 a million! The stretch goal rewards have been awesome and they just keep coming!

I'm hoping for that 1 Mil! The stretch goal reward for that sounds awesome.
