Apologies if this has been mentioned somewhere already. I find it fascinating that Dwarves can't use longswords or even swords. I know physically it makes sense that they can't. However, I am curious how you square this rule with Thorin's use of Orcrist? Maybe it's just me, but I always equated Orchrist with a sword rather than a short sword. Your thoughts? How did you picture Orcrist when you read The Hobbit?

Apparently dwarves can use swords, the designer has mentioned this in some thread - its cited in one of the important topics at the top of the TOR forum.

As for long swords, the way I'll treat this was suggested by Glorfindel in this thread. Basically only letting dwarves wield them two-handed.

It's not that they can't use swords, but the typical Dwarf doesn't. The character can take Sword or Longsword as an additional weapon skill, which they can improve with XP. Characters aren't limited to just the weapon skills presented. Those are just the default starting positions.

Sorry but that's not correct as per the RAW. Page 76 of the AB quite clearly restricts weapon usage for "small-sized heroes". It's why Francesco added the errata to allow dwarves to use a sword.

I sit corrected. They can use a great axe but not a sword. Glad the clarification came in because that just makes no sense. Hobbits I could understand restricting, but not a Dwarf.
