Out of the grateful mood I am in, I thought I would start a thread to just say thanks to Francesco for giving us an AWESOME game!
Let this be a place where Francesco can go to once in awhile for encouragement and general feel good stuff. This game has a specialness about it and I personally believe that it is due to the love and labor that Francesco put into writing it. Now, I know he didn't work alone and he'll want to deflect some of this praise to others, but this thread is dedicated to HIM and the work that he put into TOR. YOU ARE APPRECIATED FRANCESCO!!! -------------------- Please visit my blog, Advancement Points: The One Ring Files, for my TOR Resources

Greetings from Spain!,
I have to thank all the staff involved in such a project because they made a great game with the Tolkien's flavour I was waiting for. I didn't resist until the spanish translation is finished so I bought a pre-order copy (And I'm thinking in buying a spanish one too for my non-English skilled friends). Last days I've been reading the books and following this forum in the shadow. But now, I have a good reason to unveil me. Thank you so much for such a great job. |

Kudos to Francesco for designing the most authentic published Middle Earth rpg that I've ever seen in about 30 yrs of gaming, license restrictions and all! Frankly, I didn't think it could be designed so well with the existing license restrictions. Quite a feat.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'll go back to tinkering with it mercilessly while mumbling to myself and humming snatches of song, when I'm not posting quotes from the professor and yelling at the kids. |

I'm impressed. Even the Tolkien Buff in our group is sold. He was extremely sceptical before he actually got to see the product. Now he's "won over". Good job Francesco!

As I continue to move through the material at a measured pace and begin to grasp the concepts of this system I am realizing the intricacies in play on a whole new level.
I am lucky to have a gaming group who has always been very role-play oriented, and I have awarded points for their role-play over and above what they earned in combat. But this game appears to have this built in inherently. Well done. I am enjoying what I see so far -------------------- You never know how Bright you are until you have met True Darkness

Being an "old school" gamer, I summarize The One Ring to other potentials as being an "absolutely unique game, quite unlike any single other game". It is the first game since Spirit of the Century that has both urged and necessitated an entire, cover-to-cover reading. I am in complete awe of this creation as it combines the best of mechanistic and narrative style gaming. I told Francesco at GenCon that he had crafted quite a gem. It is not, however, until a week plus later, after reading the rules twice, that I fully understand just how many facets that gem possesses.
I said it before, Francesco, and it bears repeating: you have truly outdone yourself! Sean Gore/Doc_Nova |

It was just announced a few days ago that War of the Ring Collector's Edition won a Charles S. Roberts award for Best Science-Fiction or Fantasy Board Wargame, which means a lot in the wargaming world.

And against some pretty awesome competition too.

I would love to get my hands on the War of the Ring Collectors Edition.... All those painted miniatures would be great for a TOR campaign! but it's so very expensive! |

I have the War of the Ring standard edition in portuguese !! =D
Though I prefer my games in English I had to buy it in portuguese. I didn't know at that time the creator was Francesco, but I had already noticed it's an amazing game. We are lucky the same Francesco from the boardgame now gives us The One Ring |
