Hello, I have a quick question about the paragraph in the AB about giving experience points.
Am I correct in reading that the player get one XP after the session, and if the LM sees fit, each Hero gets one XP? So, if a player runs multiple characters (not likely to happen in my group) and does not qualify for the award, then the player gets 1 XP to spend on One of the characters he ran? Thanks for clarifying -------------------- You never know how Bright you are until you have met True Darkness

I could be wrong, but I read this with the assumption that player = hero.
I realize, of course, that in technical, rules-lawyer-speak, these two terms are NOT equivalent, but I don't believe that there was supposed to be careful distinction for the eventuality that one player is running more than one character. So, just to be clear, in my campaign, each character receives 2 XP at the end of each session that advances the plot significantly, with a bonus at the end of the adventure. O |

For what it's worth, I interpret this the same as Ormazd.
I think it's just that the text that says "Player" has been written assuming each "Player" is playing one "Hero" and so, as Ormazd says, the terms are being used interchangeably. i.e. Player = Hero For games where Players are running more than one Hero, I'd certainly award the XP to each Hero rather than each Player. -------------------- |

Yeah, safe assumption to make that regarding XP awards a Player and a Player Character are one and the same thing.
I can't remember the last time I ran more than 1 PC in a game. Has to be D&D and when I was a nipper! -------------------- 1) The Fellowship of the Free - a TOR Actual Play thread: http://cubicle7.clicdev.com/f/index.php?tr...&showtopic=3424

I'd interpret it the same way.
Usually each player is running one hero, but in cases where one player is running two (or more) characters, which might happen when the GM/LM has a significant threat with a small group (say, two players), then each PC would get 1-2 experience points. -------------------- Currently running Villains & Vigilantes (campaign is now 22 years old), Star Wars d6, and The One Ring.

In various places in the manuals, Francesco uses the term "player hero" when referring to characters. So, yes, it is my belief that he meant the use of "player" and "hero" in the quoted text to the same.
So, as others have said, each character gets 1 XP, plus an additional point if they've advanced the adventure's plot further along. -------------------- Garn!
I have yet to read the books thoroughly. |

I was also going to make that assumption.
It would be kind of unfair to hand out XP to some characters and not others if they all participated in the campaign. The rules state that one XP be given out, and under some circumstances another bonus XP if the scenario progressed well. I don't particularly like being an arbitrator and judge of what was good enough to earn the extra XP, and with my thus far limited knowledge would also agree with Ormazed about giving 2 XP just to settle any possible arguments straight away. Unless something went completely awry, like in the unlikely event the players were for some strange reason playing unreasonably, I will also give the 2 XP. The only reason I could see a player running 2 characters would be in the event of a player not being able to make a game session and the fellowship were already deployed afield. If the setting were in a safe setting that character would just sit it out that session. With MERP everyone had only 1 character, I believe that allows the player to focus on that one character's persona and makes for a better overall game. It will be the same with TOR. Thanks for the replies guys! -------------------- You never know how Bright you are until you have met True Darkness
