I was just wondering....when you roll a Gandalf rune on the Fate die it is an auto success and Tengwars on the Success dice give you higher levels of auto success.

What about when you are in combat and making an attack roll? When you roll and attack and roll a Gandalf rune, for instance....does that mean you automatically hit? What if you roll 2 Tengwar symbols? I think the answer is no because there is no mention of this sort of thing in terms of combat except for if you make and attack and essentially miss and get an Eye of Sauron symbol on the Fate die you fumble and lose your next turn.

What about when you make your protection roll? Are there auto success there? It seems there are no auto success results in combat if I am reading the books correctly.

Yes. If you roll a G on an attack, you hit for damage based on weapon.

You do additional Damage (normally equal to Body) for each Tengwar you get.

I see no reason why Gandalf Rune would not give an auto success to a Protection roll.

So, my reading is that Gandalf Rune is an auto success in combat and out. Its not unbalancing and is in line with the rest of the system.

Duh! You are of course correct. I completely forgot that when you roll a Tengwar you do your dmg bonus in damage and double that on a roll of 2 Tengwars.

My mind must be melting. Thanks!

Not only is it an auto success but a Gandalf Rune also threatens a Wound.

I'd just want to ad that if you roll a G that has no numerical value in itself so the two Mines you rolled will count anyway... IF this was not the case you'd much rather roll 10 plus your two Mines to make sure you got to add the extra damage....

... and honestly, the ame should make you want that Rune... not a simple 10. So I'd allow the Mines to count for sure.
