Now, I know this is a long shot. But does anybody have a decent map of Dol Amroth and the area nearby? I have a map that's nice, but if you try to zoom in to see what's where, then the resolution gives out and you can't see for toffee.

Failing a pre-existing map, does anyone know of decent software to make a map, or perhaps be interested in making one/helping me with ideas etc. I know that everyone here is good at ideas for what should be included in a town from Tensen's Dale map threads, so I'm sure I wouldn't be stuck for ideas.

Thanks guys

Beleg

MERP had a quite well-detailed Dol Amroth. You can find it in Havens of Gondor (1st ed. MERP) or Southern Gondor: The Land (2nd ed.). IMO this version of Dol Amroth is almost perfect, so it should be easy to use. There were some place descriptions, but also lots of blank spaces (e.g. not mentioned ones). The city map has a colour code to show the type of business/occupant, which makes placement easier as well. Of course you are free to place anything elswewhere in your game smile.gif

Since it is OOP, eBay or the usual places on the net are sources to find it wink.gif

Thanks Tolwen. That sounds similar to the one I found on the internet. Then again, it may not be. Thing is, I don't really want to pay money for it (being a poor student and all). Is there a way I could get a hold of those books for free? (legally tongue.gif)

There's the catch for it; it's not legally downloadable somewhere on the net. All the IP for MERP reverted to the Evil Empire (i.e. Middle-earth Enterprises) in 1999, and there it stayed ever since in a dark cellar wink.gif
MeE never even made the attempt to re-sell or re-publish (i.e. electronically) it in any way. It's a long sad story, but that's how it is.

Cheers

And unless I'm mistaken the map was generated in Campaign Cartographer 2 (CC2); if not someone did a pretty good job of simulating the appearance of a CC2 map. The compass rose is new to me, but I don't have all of the later MERP product line. So whether that was also from CC2 or post-edited into the image I cannot be sure.

Havens of Gondor, where exactly that map appeared the first time, is from 1987. CC was first published in 1993 (according to Wikipedia), so the inspiration was probably the other way round wink.gif

I know there was at point point a Campaign Cartographer 2 add-on pack for the style of Peter C. Fenlon, the man who drew the MERP maps: that may be why the map resembles CC2 work to you, Garn.

Edit: Here's a link to the add-on Fenlon style pack: http://www.profantasy.com/rpgmaps/?p=576
