I don't know how he did it, but when I make mine, did the following: For the background: I take a snapshot in Acrobat of a page from the Adventurer's book. I then paste it in to mspaint. I cut out any text and color fill the blank. I save it as a jpeg and use it as a watermark background in a Word doc. Fonts: symbols: (G-rune, Tengwar rune, Eye rune) aaatord chapter headers: Libra Paragraph headers: Dumbledor 1 Text: Alois and Alois Light Book Quotes: Tolkienesque |

I believe I linked you to my template document in a previous thread, Roc. You'll still need to go out and buy the fonts though so even if Thror sends you another template it won't 'look' right until you make those purchases. EDIT: Apologies, wasn't you but here you go - here's a link to a document template: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/79541775/1.%20Template.doc You'll still have to purchase the fonts, which are named in the document, but this should give you a steer as to what font to use, when, what size it should be, etc and there's also the background that I use for mine. -------------------- 1) The Fellowship of the Free - a TOR Actual Play thread: http://cubicle7.clicdev.com/f/index.php?tr...&showtopic=3424

Nice one. Couldn't remember whether I bought or got them free so erred on the side of caution. -------------------- 1) The Fellowship of the Free - a TOR Actual Play thread: http://cubicle7.clicdev.com/f/index.php?tr...&showtopic=3424

Only some words more: I don't believe that TOR's long swords are claymore like swords, but longswords of the medieval period.
Claymore Longsword Norman longsword Sword in TOR book But, of course, it is only my belief -------------------- Cheers,
Chris :))) |

In my opinion that last post would have been an excellent entry under the topic I started "long swords, how long is long?"
You make a good point in that the image in the players guide makes it look a bit more like a one handed sword than I had in my mind, and looks probably not that much longer than the standard sword.... I kinda like that since it promotes an earlier period feel which is consistant with my idea of what weapons and armour would be like in middle earth. I do have to say that your norman long sword looks like it would be hard to use in two hands due to the wide pommel, this pommel is associated with swords meant to be used in only one hand. I think it also looks more like the example of the one handed sword in the player book. This is a classic viking age sword in my view. Typically sword meant to be used in either one or two hands have a more round pommel (like the image of a sword you labeled as a longsword) which is easier to grip when the second (back) hand is used it is partly holding the pommel and partly resting on the handle, or so most of my peers do when they use hand and a half swords in two hands. |
