Let me start by saying, I love this game. I really, really love this game. I say that so that no one gets the wrong idea about my criticisms. I am posting in the hope that some of what I see lacking can be incorporated into future supplements, like a campaign guide/GM Screen/Rivendell book. In general I think the rules are very clever, fun and appropriately thematic. The books and the map are beautiful. The art is great and the page layout is readable and attractive.

I have now played the game at GenCon, run two different intro scenarios for my two game groups with the purpose of teaching the rules and demonstrating a Journey, Encounter and Combat using pre-generated characters. At the end of each session we then made characters for our next session. On Sunday I ran my first actual session with one of the groups and the characters that they created in the prior session. Both groups enjoyed the game and I got great feedback after Sunday’s game and enthusiasm from the group to continue playing going forward.

All that being said, with the exception of character creation in the Adventurer’s Book (AB), the rule books are just a mess. The rules are spread over both books and though the sections often reference the other sections there is just too much cross reference with too little repeating and collecting of similar rules. A great example of this is that in the section on Journeys in the Loremaster’s Book(LB) does not address the impact of boats or horses. Instead this rule is in the AB under a section labeled Journey Resolution and reference to horses and/or boats are not included in the Index. Another example is that weapon stats are included in the character creation section and not in the description of the weapons. There are several more examples like this but I don’t want to be tedious. A lot of this could be managed by some nice summary sheets. I took a stab with my GM screen inserts and they definitely speed up play considerably.

I would really like to see an expanded section of rules on the Fellowship Phase with detailed examples, hopefully this comes in the campaign guide as well as a possible who's who of the region and suggested adventures.

I agree that this game is in bad need of some summary sheets. Fortunately there are some good ones already, if you read these forums thoroughly enough.

Maybe we need a stickied thread that lists useful resources? I think that would be a very good thing, if anyone with mod status is listening. biggrin.gif

I am the creator of at least one set of the summary sheets and agree, there are a few threads that are in need of sticky.

Yep! Yours are the set I have printed off for reference. Very helpful. We ran a few combat trials this weekend before printing them off and found ourselves doing a lot of rule searching. I have your sheets for the next trial we run one evening this week as I prep for a one-shot in a week or so.
