Hello everybody, some of you may have read my previous submission "Spells for The One Ring" thread, and also Kaltharion's excellent pdf "The Dwimmer Road" as attempts to fill what was seen by some as a hole in the otherwise excellent system The One Ring[I].

I can now provide Part One of a complete Chapter on Magic for The One Ring, see link below:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/65632786/Magic%20i...iddle-earth.doc

Will provide Part Two (The Middle-earth Grimoire), Part Three (Additional Rewards/Virtues & Fellowship Phase rules) and Part Four (Magic Items) when I get time!

Thanks to Robert Cooper (aka Kaltharion) for the inspiration, although as an unashamed fan of Decipher's magic system (one of the few good points of that system), I have also used many ideas from that as well.

Looking now for constructive feedback, my main fear is have I covered all potential questions from players??

I have downloaded it and hope to read it soon! Not knowing Decipher's game system I can't speak towards the ideas derived therein, but I will provide any comments to which I deem helpful to you at a later time. wink.gif

I just wanted you to have someone comment rather than continue the silence ... which I attest exists due to the nature of your subject. As you are probably aware, magic use tends to be a touchy subject in Tolkien-based RPGs ... it is probably the single-most contentious and polarizing topic in the genre.

Can't really get a feel for it until we see the grimoire. But it looks a bit overtaken at this point.

Also, a suggestion on formatting: either release in PDF or use one of the standard fonts: Times, Times New Roman, Arial, Helvetica, Courier, georgia, Lucida Grande, Trebuchet, Verdana, Symbol, Zapf Dingbats. Those will get you most of the Mac and Linux people seeing it close to intended. (I had to install calibri again, as it's not a standard on MacOS X)

I like these and would like to see more of what you are developing. I don't mind a little magic in Middle-Earth-Tolkien alludes to bits and pieces and dribs and drabs of magic. But then, I play a Rune-Keeper and a Lore-Master in LOTRO, so I don't have much room to talk, I suppose.

Information-wise, it looks really good. I noticed a few formatting problems, but I figure it's an early draft, so it's too early to mention any specifics, yet. You've put quite a bit of hard work into it, too! I thank you for that! I am looking forward to seeing parts 2, 3, and 4. Especially 2!

I have read all of it in one go! Very nicely written and quite interesting system. If my TOR campaign is going to have any PC-magic, it will be using this system (if not better official system is released).

I love the "What can't be done, and what it wrong to do" section. It helps a filtering out the kind of magic that doesn't fit at all with Middle-Earth.
I'm intrigued by how my players would react to the possibility of developing their own spells.

Would the use of a spell for damaging another individual in combat (an orc or evil man) incur in a Misdeed?
