My attempt to expand the variety of foes heroes have to battle.
Though there are fouler things than orcs in the world, orcs are the primary adversary that heroes must face. Now with added Trolls (and Wolves) and other stuff Here is a link to the fine Pdf that Rich H made which includes all my stuff and much, much more, hope you find it useful. https://dl.dropbox.com/u/79541775/Additiona...use%20Rules.pdf Please tell me what you think, feedback is always welcome. Glad you like them Halbarad. I'm particularly pleased with the Orc Taskmaster, I can see him being very useful to keep those cowardly wretches in the fight.
Does the whip seemed balanced do you think? -------------------- |

Yeah, the whip is a nice touch. I think it's well balanced in it's effect. This guy is going to be pretty nasty in melee with a bent sword in his off-hand and Savage Assault.

Or better yet, does anyone fancy turning them into a pretty pdf? -------------------- |

Okay I'm back with 2 new orc foes to add to a Lore Masters arsenal.
The first is an orc line breaker who is wielding a massive axe (with new stats). I just thought a big axe wielding orc would be a good addition. The second is a little more controversial, an orc magic user. I'm relatively sure they are skirting the non-lore boundaries but I added him in as a nasty surprise for our intrepid heroes. I imagine they'd be fairly rare. I suppose with a change of hats he would also work as a fallen man who is shadowy practitioner of fell magic (if you can't buy into the orc magic user idea. I really would like people's opinion on the orc shaman's new spell. Do you think it is too powerful? It seems quite powerful and I'm not sure if maybe it should only be a +2 to Injury rolls. I'm not sure. -------------------- |

@Rich H - I just noticed that the Orc Champion in your Pdf has great size. My original version didn't. I think it needs removing because that makes him better than the Uruk Champion.
I might have a go at a few other variants of creatures when I have a little time. Any one got any ideas? Troll variants, wolves maybe. -------------------- |

I'm back with some new baddies to throw at the Pc's. This time I thought I'd have a go at something other than orcs. A little warning though the Olag-hai will smash your Pc's heads in. You have been warned.

Like a bloody Orc Taskmaster (now we have the stats), aren't ya?!!? ... I'll get onto it for you. Before I do though, do you want to check those write-ups - there are no favoured skill groups, weapons, etc listed in them. Well, if I'm going to be a lazy sod and ask you to do work that I should probably do for myself, perhaps some undead? The corpse-candles of the Dead Marshes? Barrow-wights? Nazgûl? :-) These aren't all that Wilderland-specific, but there are a lot of spirits and dead things in the Tolkien books, and the core game's selection of adversaries doesn't really touch on those. -------------------- "Self-discipline isn't everything; look at Pol Pot." —Helen Fielding, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason

Barrow-wights would be interesting to see. Corpse candles are just lights that lure people to their deaths aren't they? Do they need actual stats? Nazgul!! The only stats The Nine need is "you meet one, you die." What about Ents or Hurons? The Giant Eagles? Vampires? -------------------- "It's all the deep end."

I was kidding about the Nazgûl, yes. :-) Got a little carried away by my theme. Agreed that Corpse-candles don't really need a full write-up (no Endurance, weapon skills, etc.), but it might be worth documenting their beckoning power in game terms: seems to me like a Dread Spells ability with a pool of Hate to fuel it. Perhaps similar creatures dwell (in smaller numbers) in the Long Marshes, with the men of the North actually calling them "Will-o'-the-wisps", as in traditional English folklore? Not attested in the source material, but it seems to me to be a good thematic fit. Ents and Huorns and Eagles would all be great, though hopefully the first two wouldn't come up too much in a Wilderland-based game. -------------------- "Self-discipline isn't everything; look at Pol Pot." —Helen Fielding, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason

The "New Adversaries" link in my signature contains Wights, a Huorn, a Will 'O The Wisp, and a Nazgul that were created by my fellow forumites and/or myself and/or compiled from earlier threads on the forums. You're welcome to use them, as you see fit. BTW, the Wights were created with a twist on Endurance ... a new Trait called "Undead Traits" ... this was done before Tales from Wilderland came out with the Shadow Wight ... I actually used the Shadow Wights instead (when it came down to actual use in my game) as they were easier to fight than what the forumites came up with.

Well I'm not sure about doing stats for Eagles and Ents. Why would you be fighting them unless you're a bad'un?
Nazgul - not going to touch them. Huorns, Corpse Candles, Will'O The Wisp, I'm also unsure about these. I'll have a think about them. But in the mean time here are some new guys. The first is a new kind of Troll with a funny special ability. The rest are undead spirits. The Restless Dead is based upon the Undead Warrior from TfW and the Wights are based off the Night Wight also in TfW, with one being weaker and the other stronger than the one in the book. I didn't want to make up a load of new abilities for them, but rather use abilities in the books to cover them. I see these wights as weaker than a Barrow Wight which would likely have Dreadful Spells and maybe a few other abilites on top. Etten (Two Headed Troll) Attribute Level 7 Endurance 82 Hate 8 Parry 6 Armour 4d Skills Personality, 2 Survival, 2 Movement, 2 Custom, 2 Perception, 2 Vocation, 1 Weapons Club 3 Crush 2 Special Abilities Great Size, Savage Assault, Horrible Strength, Two Heads Not Better Than One* *If the Etten rolls a G rune when attacking then it spends the next turn arguing with itself. Restless Dead Attribute Level 3 Endurance 20 Hate 5 Parry 5 Armour 2d Skills Personality, 1 Survival, 2 Movement, 2 Custom, 1 Perception, 1 Vocation, 1 Weapons Claw 2 Sword 2 Special Abilities Unnatural Vitality, Foul Reek Wretched Wight Attribute Level 3 Endurance 32 Hate 5 Parry 6 Armour 3d Skills Personality, 1 Survival, 1 Movement, 3 Custom, 2 Perception, 2 Vocation, 2 Weapons Spear 2 Sword 2 Strangling Claws 2 Special Abilities Fear of Fire, Denizen of the Dark, Fell Speed, Craven Gloom Wight Attribute Level 6 Endurance 66 Hate 9 Parry 8 Armour 4d Skills Personality, 2 Survival, 1 Movement, 3 Custom, 3 Perception, 2 Vocation, 3 Weapons Spear 3 Sword 3 Strangling Claws 2 Special Abilities Fear of Fire, Denizen of the Dark, Fell Speed, Craven, Bewilder, Strike Fear Hopefully Rich H can find some scary pictures to go with them, for the Pdf. -------------------- |

Just had a thought Poosticks. I was wondering if you had considered (or more probably, would be willing to consider) making some corsair/haradrim enemies?
They would come in very useful to me. Not that I can't do it myself. You're just so good Thanks Beleg -------------------- |

As always, it was my pleasure.
Yeah, the Ettin felt more like a Giant to me rather than a troll so I took the liberty of applying a little "Editor Authority". Glad you don't mind.
I was happy with them too. Really like the Ettin one - it has lots of character and I think it is very much in keeping with the Hobbit. -------------------- 1) The Fellowship of the Free - a TOR Actual Play thread: http://cubicle7.clicdev.com/f/index.php?tr...&showtopic=3424

Well I think you could easily reskin the outlaws & thugs from Tales from Wilderland to be your corsairs. I'll have a think though and see if I can come up with something else. Though they will likely be generic ruffians rather than specifically corsairs/haradrim. Oh thanks for the compliment. Made me all fuzzy inside . -------------------- |

Here is a creature I made for the first adventure in The Hunting of the Wolves campaign. The companions travel through the Long Marshes on their way to Mirkwood...
Marsh Serpents Adventurers wading through the reeds and cattails of a marsh, are likely to rouse dangerous serpents. These 20-30 foot snakes lurk in the low pools and cool, damp soil of the marsh, which provides the ideal habitat for breeding and laying eggs. Adventurers should be wary of these creatures when they encounter them because of their tremendous speed at striking and their ability to constrict their victims. A marsh serpent's main form of attack is its bite; if a strike is successful, then the creature uses its Seize Victim ability to Constrict the target. Serpents will use up their Hate points in the beginning of a fight, unleashing Snake-like Speed, rather than rationing them. On the occasion of defeating a marsh serpent, any player-hero that suggests a Search task, can find 1 point of treasure buried in its muddy nest by making a moderate TN 14 roll. If no one suggests it, the Loremaster can call for a hard TN 16 Awareness test to see if anyone notices the glint of gold. Marsh Serpent Attribute Level 4, Hate 3, Endurance 15, Parry 7, Armour 2d, Bite 2 (Damage 6, Edge 11, Injury 14, Called Shot – Pierce), Constrict 3 (Damage 8, Edge -, Injury -), Special Abilities: Seize Victim and Snake-like Speed. -------------------- Please visit my blog, Advancement Points: The One Ring Files, for my TOR Resources

See, that's a brilliant idea... the issue is that I don't have Tales from Wilderland :/
And outlaws would be just fine. I'll just say they're covered in fancy colours and call them haradrim -------------------- |

Well what are you waiting for Beleg go and buy the book.
Nice Marsh Serpent JamesRBrown, just the thing to make an adventurer's day when he's miserable and wet in the marshes. I've personally avoided doing stats for wild beasties as it dosn't seem very Tolkien-like to butcher the local fauna, but everyone hates snakes right . -------------------- |

I think snakes are lovely
And I'm a poor student, I can't really justify spending 20 pounds on a book when most of my course books are about the same price :/ Then again, there's this Christmas thing I keep hearing about... Sounds like I shall have to ammend my wishlist -------------------- |

I suppose if the local fauna were to ambush the adventurers for their treasure, they could "defend" themselves. This would indicate that the beast was something more than wild. It could also be a talking beast. In this case, a marsh serpent could be a lesser wyrm of sorts. Another idea is to make some of the treasure guarded by a marsh serpent cursed. Maybe there is a 50% chance it is cursed. -------------------- Please visit my blog, Advancement Points: The One Ring Files, for my TOR Resources

There's been talk of strange folk abroad. As requested by Beleg - a band of near do wells that Turin himself would be glad to lead in a life of banditry.
Now I had to make up a few abilities for these guys and I don't really know if they are balanced (feedback is always appreciated). Also these guys are intended to be tougher fights than the thugs and outlaws in TfW, I suggest mixing them in with them as needed. I'm quite looking forward to the pictures Rich H comes up with for these guys. Oh and as a bonus I did a guard dog as well. Ruffian Attribute Level 3 Endurance 14 Hate 3 Parry 4 Armour 2d Skills Personality, 1 Survival, 2 Movement, 2 Custom, 2 Perception, 2 Vocation, 1 Weapons Short Sword 2 Special Abilities Craven, Overwhelm* Robber Attribute Level 4 Endurance 16 Hate 3 Parry 5 Armour 2d+1 Skills Personality, 1 Survival, 3 Movement, 3 Custom, 1 Perception, 3 Vocation, 2 Weapons Spear 2 Short Sword 2 Special Abilities Snake-Like Speed, Craven, Dirty Fighting** Ruffian Leader Attribute Level 4 Endurance 18 Hate 4 Parry 5 Armour 2d Skills Personality, 2 Survival, 3 Movement, 2 Custom, 2 Perception, 2 Vocation, 2 Weapons Long Sword 2 Special Abilities Commanding Voice, Overwhelm* Brigand Attribute Level 4 Endurance 18 Hate 3 Parry 5 Armour 3d+1 Skills Personality, 1 Survival, 2 Movement, 2 Custom, 2 Perception, 2 Vocation, 1 Weapons Axe 2 Long Sword 3 Special Abilities Savage Assault, Dirty Fighting** * & ** see next post -------------------- |

Here are the rest. (I have been a busy bee)
Bandit Attribute Level 4 Endurance 16 Hate 3 Parry 4 Armour 3d+1 Skills Personality, 2 Survival, 3 Movement, 2 Custom, 1 Perception, 2 Vocation, 2 Weapons Spear 2 Axe 2 Special Abilities No quarter, Overwhelm* Bandit Marksman Attribute Level 4 Endurance 16 Hate 3 Parry 3 Armour 2d Skills Personality, 2 Survival, 3 Movement, 3 Custom, 1 Perception, 2 Vocation, 2 Weapons Bow 2 Dagger 2 Special Abilities Deadly Archery, Pinning Shot** Bandit Chief Attribute Level 5 Endurance 20 Hate 5 Parry 5+2 Armour 3d+1 Skills Personality, 4 Survival, 3 Movement, 3 Custom, 3 Perception, 2 Vocation, 2 Weapons Long Sword 3 Special Abilities Commanding Voice, Snake-Like Speed, Overwhelm* Guard Dog Attribute Level 2 Endurance 8 Hate 1 Parry 3 Armour 1d Skills Personality, 1 Survival, 1 Movement, 3 Custom, 0 Perception, 2 Vocation, 0 Weapons Bite 2 Special Abilities Fear of Fire, Seize Victim *Overwhelm If the creature’s attack hits producing a great or extraordinary success, reduce its Hate point score by one point to cause the target to be considered temporary weary, until the end of this creatures next turn. **Dirty Fighting Before attacking this creature can reduce its Hate point score by one point to cause the target’s parry rating to be reduced by 3 until the start of this creatures next turn. ***Pinning Shot If the creature’s attack hits producing a great or extraordinary success, reduce its Hate point score by one point to force the target to be considered under the effects of Knockback for one turn. Note this does not including the halving of the endurance loss as with normal Knockback, nor can the target be knocked back normally. Just to reiterate, I don't know if these new abilities are balanced. I've only just thought of them so I haven't tried them myself. I think they look alright, but any feedback would be welcome. -------------------- |
