Hello,
I am thinking of something I remember about a certain breed of Trolls that could go about during the day. In MERP they were referred to as "Olog-Hai" or Black Trolls and though they are only mentioned in The Return of the King (I think). They appeared around the time of the War of the Ring, at the Battle of Morannon at the Black Gates and the Battle of Pelenor fields I believe. I don't believe it likely they were created over night and I surmise their kind could start appearing about this time in TOR, the point being...it would be handy to have one or two to play around with in my campaign. They were not quite as strong as true Trolls, but they could go about by day. They were believed to be Troll/Orc hybrids or something like that. Has anybody put together a creature to represent the Olog-Hai? -------------------- You never know how Bright you are until you have met True Darkness

There is both an Olog-hai and an Olog-hai chief in Rich H's rules supplement, made by Poosticks

Thanks for the advice Poosticks, that's good to know. We haven't had but two test combat runs, so I am unfamiliar with the power levels, but I need a real tough bad guy, and my MERP players are familiar with Olog-Hai and have a healthy respect/fear of them already.
One Olog-Hai in particular from my MERP campaign was named Szann-do Zann and strikes fear into their hearts lol, I'd imagine he could be around during this period, as he was around a couple years before the War of the Ring. Whats cool about using your creature(s) is that they won't know his numbers, and I like to exploit fear of the unknown. I plan on using him along with a few lower level orcs and a couple wargs as a deterrent in a teaser hook early on. Not meant to be tackled at an early stage though. I don't do Challenge Rating as in D&D when I make up scenarios. Not every scenario has a possibility of winning, some are meant to be very tough. He's something I might purposely have to use a Deus-Ex-Machina plot device with. If they try to tackle him too soon, and If they are creative and/or get lucky so be it, they deserve a great reward. But if they fail, I will have Deus-Ex-Machina step in to rescue them, and then I will use him as a sabre rattling plot device when I wish to raise the tension level. Thanks! -------------------- You never know how Bright you are until you have met True Darkness

Besides the Olog-hai, fans have speculated over the years over the possible existance of Half-trolls (based on a passage or so from RotK) that might have been a hybrid between Olog-hai and Variag Men. Such beings were even incorporated into the MERP game as a playable character race.
Description: Half-trolls are smaller and quicker than Olog-hai and vaguely resemble Men. Their 7-foot height, jet-black skin, long sharp red tongues and glowing red eyes also serve notice of their uniqueness. Half-trolls differ from Olog-hai in other ways: They are more agile, they are as intelligent as Men, and they avoid other Trolls. Half-trolls would likely use Westron as well as the Black Speech, and might know other languages such as Orkish. They might even have a chance to be literate. -------------------- All that is gold does not glitter,
