hm. A few weeks ago I placed my pre-order for the one ring on amazon.co.uk.

Recently, instead of being surprised by a debit card payment just appearing one day, I bought £40 of Amazon gift certificates to cover it.

lo and behold... the one ring no longer appears on Amazon.co.uk.

What gives? Do I have a pre-order? (it wasn't the priority one)
For all intent it now looks like I have no pre-order and £40 of gift vouchers I won't use. Can anyone enlighten me? Has C7 pulled it from Amazon?

It seems that a priority pre-order is one done direct through C7 with an extra cost.

Other pre-orders are down to whoever you placed the pre-order with...it's their deal so their responsibility. But from what I can gather any pre-orders outside of C7 will ship at the same time as it goes on general release.

As for Amazon...that's unfortunately not uncommon. I'm sure they will eventually get the books in (they nearly always do) but in my experience they always get them well after every other RPG store/site. That's the downside to getting the huge discount they offer.

They also have a habit of placing items on their site with details not always obtained from the producer. Their release dates for example are sometimes completely wrong.

To clarify,

A "regular" Pre-Orders is one thing. This can be done through a number of retailers (Amazon included). Even the C7 store offers a Pre-Order.

Then there is the "Premium Advance Shipment Pre-Order" and that is something else and ONLY available from the C7 store. It cost more (actually including air-feright I'll end up paying roughly USD 24 extra for this compared to Recommended Retail Price) and it means you will have to book before actual release date.

Just back from work, and I am indeed pleased. biggrin.gif
Very nice quality, and large enough to not require folding to stay open (I'm looking at you D&D Essentials). Lovely thick sleeve, and the maps! Should be plenty hard-wearing.

Though the PDF is nice I don't have the means to print it right now, and it's just so much easier to read an actual book. So I've been neglecting TOR a little. I can get properly stuck in now. tongue.gif

The pre-order that people did with C7 was just a special thing they were doing for specially because of GenCon - people who wanted to pay a little more got the books for around the event (or just after). It's not like a normal pre-order you get on websites like Amazon etc. This special offer was before the public shipment is delivered to C7, sometime in September.

i completely get that. it was the normal pre-order.

Ive called them and they say its gone through which is why it was taken from the normal online market. They're telling 2-10 sept for shipment. They took the cost from my vouchers. Will let you know when it arrives.

Will keep our fingers (and hairy toes) crossed for ya that it goes through quickly and smoothly.

Edit: I would guess Amazon will get their books in when C7 get their bulk shipment in, not quite sure how that works, but I would assume C7 get it to hand out to others. Never quite sure. Just be aware Amazon advertised the card game stuff on their site and then never got it in, but that could be a FFG problem, since I have seen Victoriana stuff on Amazon.

Anyone have any idea when this might ship to the distributors, and thus the brick & mortar game stores? I don't by hardcopy online, I like to support my FLGS...

Think I said it above (based on comments from C7 team) - normal public copies are expected in September, early to mid.

I prefer real copies, hence why I got my physical copy today, but had the pdf since day one of GenCon, the £7 extra for the special order was worth it tbh.

I have had bad experiences with Amazon.co.uk and preordering C7 products (Advanced Fighting Fantasy and Fabled Lands). If they product doesnt meet the release date, which they invariably don't then Amazon.co.uk just sort of drops the order altogether. I have heard stories of the order being fulfilled months after the release date.

Amazon.com is actually more reliable and tends to get C7 products earlier,

It sounds like the books will be landing enmasse in mid September. So, I would say the second half of September is likely assuming your FLGS is on to ordering this stuff promptly.

Mine got here in Yorkshire, England, Wednesday daytime. Thankyou, Angus.
But I was at work and GF was in the shower; postie took it back to the office!
I didn't get my paws on it till Thursday. sad.gif

But OMFG, the slipcased set is gorgeous! biggrin.gif

I've had the PDF a while now, read through most of it, and feel quite familiar with it. But the printed copies manage to make the use of colour more vivid than the PDF, the pages are nicer and John and Jon and Tomasz's illustrations really leap out.

I've got to put a word in on DriveThruStuff to say that anyone who even halfway likes the PDF preview on there will be blown away by the physical product itself.

And the gorgeous maps and the custom dice are just the icing on the cake!

It's a fantastic product, and everyone just has to be so proud of what they've accomplished!

Cheers all,
--Os.

Just got mine today, this game is gorgeous, and well made. These books are heavy and the slipcase feels like it could stop a small caliber round. Production values off the charts.

If I had to find something to criticize about the presentation I would want the Sauron and Gandalf runes to be bigger on the D12 and the D6s to have just the Tengwar rune. biggrin.gif

I only bought the pdf, but now I'm seriously considering getting the hard copy slip-case. I do worry about the durability of the dice tray though - is it hard plastic or will it likely need to be replaced after time?

Dice tray durability will be a problem if you intend to keep the dice in the tray with the books. The tray is pretty flimsy.

On the plus side, it looks to be long enough to hold two complete sets of dice.

See? There's the thing, the slipcase only makes sense if you can keep the books in them for all of eternity without the dice tray wearing out. It might be an unnecessary production expense. I'd rather pay less for the two books and dice without the slip case or pay a little more for the addition of a durable plastic dice tray.

Now I'm in a quandary.

I was considering making a new dice tray to fit in the slip case out of 2mm plywood.
It's pretty flimsy, but unless it's handled roughly it'll last a while.

Everything that has been said is true. I wondered about the books not being hard cover and if they would be as nice in quality. Boy, was I surprised! These books are gorgeous and printed on quality paper. They seem to be durable as well (only time will tell after usage). I want more sets of dice NOW. These ones are stylish and match the game perfectly. And oh...the maps! There's no way my players are writing on them; they are much too nice. I am looking for frames. I figure that by the third core set, we will have some pretty amazing maps to display of Middle-earth.

About the dice tray and the slipcase...

The dice holder is just flimsy plastic, but it should last for a long time if no one sits on it or something. It has a front lip to grab hold of when it is in the slipcase so that you can pull it out easily.

I think I would have preferred to have just the books in the slipcase with a separate (better quality) holder for the dice. That would allow the books to fit perfectly in the case without the dice. But, the slipcase is extremely attractive and I'm not getting rid of it. I will continue to put my dice back in the plastic tray and put the game on my bookshelf when I'm not reading it. In other words, it won't see the shelf for awhile!!!

Gotta go for now...I've got three players coming over to make characters and learn the rules!

Got mine yesterday!!! Really awesome work therw C7, it is beautiful. The jury is still out on the dice and tray... I'd probably preferred a slipcase that fit the books more snug, and have dice on the side, since I've allready had one "accident" with foegetting and dice flying all over. It took me half an hours search before I found them all again... So I think I will keep these dice like I normally do... And that means the slip case is oversized.

But hey... It's a small thing. Love everything else.

I would have applied a finish to try and match the browns of the slipcase, but some scroll work sounds cool. We'll see if I ever get round to it XD

Cool. On saying that, Royal Mail is excellent. I received something from Book Depository that uses the same carrier in less than a week, so here's hoping. smile.gif

Here in Denmark - I just received my package this morning, but I can't say for sure if it arrived Friday, Saturday or just this morning (as I wasn't in the office on Friday).

Man - it is gorgeous...I really wasn't expecting the case to be so solid. Now to begin planning a couple of campaigns biggrin.gif

Same here in Sewden, I had to go pick it up at the Agent... no direct delivery.

I think if it's bigger than a deck of cards the postal guy won't take it... and the reason? I don't know but I have a feeling the Union and the fact that most postal delivery men and women are actually 17 year old boys an girls built like straws could have something to do with it.

It's much the same in Denmark as well. I think if it weighs more than 5kg you have to pick it up at a depot as opposed to home delivery. Thankfully I get most of my deliveries done to where I work (since I spend more time there than at home sadly) - which works out well esp when I was purchasing my research material for a project I'm working on.

The union over here is rubbish. They just tend to agree with management, but that's a topic for another forum smile.gif

The advantage of my crappy job is that I can make sure my own post gets delivered... carefully!

Actually, that's not my real job...

My job is Loremaster/GM/Keeper/etc... but the pay is awful (zero pounds).

So I have this crappy other job where they pay me money so I can afford my real job!
