I have seen a few references to Hate points in the manuals, but I am not clear on exactly how it works. What precisely are Hate points used for and in what situations?

Hate Poinst are like the equivalent of Hope Points for the foes of the players.
Opponents have to spend Hate Points for the use of some of their Special Ablilities and if the Points equal 0 the adversaries are in a state like Miserable. |

The Hate Points are used to power some of the creature abilities (see the ability descriptions). They're also reduced if the player uses the Intimidate Foe attack when their character is fighting in Forward stance. When the Hate Points are reduced to zero, the creature is Weary, with the same penalty as for PCs - rolls of 1 to 3 on the success dice are counted as zero.
[Edit] IIRC, creatures with the Craven attribute will run away when their Hate Points reach zero. -------------------- Current EU RPG Group Games: European FG2 RPG Friday (8pm to 11pm UK time; Ultimate License) - Classic Traveller Sunday (8pm to 11pm UK time; Ultimate License) - The One Ring: Adventures over the Edge of the Wild Using Ultimate FGII and can accept unlicensed player connections on some of the games. ----------------- LOTRO - Brandywine Server Halbras - Hobbit Hunter / Jonab - Bree-folk Captain / Ardri - Dwarf Guardian / Halaberiel - Elf Hunter |

Re "When the Hate Points are reduced to zero, the creature is Weary" - where is this stated in the rule book - I can't find it?
Are there other implications of being at 0 Hate? (A "state like miserable"?) |

It's stated on p. 65 of the Loremaster's Book. And there is no state of Miserable for adversaries - they are a miserable lot...
I have made an error as I wrote Miserable |

Something about this came up during my game...
Can I, as the Loremaster, spend Hate to add an attribute bonus in the same way Hope can be used by the players? It's never clearly stated that I have found but the text of "Denizen of the Dark" implies I can. Denizen of the Dark "While the creature is in the dark (at night, underground, or in a dense forest) its Attribute level is doubled as far as all rolls are concerned (attack and Protection tests included)." The only time that would matter is if I was able to spend them. -------------------- I'm no Jon Hodgson, but I'm available for commissions! Visit My DeviantArt for examples and prices.

No. Attributes are only added to Favored skills/abilities. In those cases they are always added, without spending Hate.
So Denizen of the Dark doubles the attribute bonus for Favored skills. |

Ah okay, that is much more useful... I can't believe I missed seeing that. Chalk one up for not wanting to open the book whenever possible -------------------- I'm no Jon Hodgson, but I'm available for commissions! Visit My DeviantArt for examples and prices.
