I am wondering if there have been any LMs who have narrated a player-hero's retirement and bequeath of an Heroic Heritage?

Not quite as you say. I recently "retired" my Dwarf after about 5 or six games (my group is only able to get together once a month). He was the eldest of 3 brothers, but I felt that having 3 Dwarves kind of hampered the Company in skill set and abilities, also I wasn't really getting 'the feel" of the character. We also weren't using the experience as written; since we got together so infrequently the LM sped up experience a bit. So, I made my Woodman more-or-less the equal of the Dwarf in skill, and the LM ok'd him. The Dwarf is now on the staff of the new Dwarven Envoy to Lake Town.

Thanks for that bit Beran, it sheds light on how in one instance players are ovine on past initial characters.
Has anyone used the rules for Retirement and or playing generationally where they expect to use the Heroic Heritage rule? Or, are most LMs and player handling character changeover in a house-specific way? |

Not had to retire anyone yet, but one PC died and I used heritage for a small XP boost for him to start his new character with.
The humans in my group will hit 30 in six or seven years of game time, the hobbit and dwarf have about 25 years to go to the suggested end of their adventuring days. So by the end of Darkening of Mirkwood, they will all be retired... probably. I won't force them to retire and I don't recall any actual rules to say what happens if they keep adventuring... but by that time, their permanent Shadow Points may be getting dangerously high! I will just have to see what happens! |

My take on the rules is that you don't actually have to retire a character at any time, but after years of dealing with the Shadow it probably should be considered. -------------------- "It's all the deep end."

That's what I've assumed as well. Retiring to a nice quiet life among your people is far more preferable to succuming to one final (and permanent) bout of madness.
