How do you handle riding checks in The One Ring? I realize that the rules for horses are on hold until the Rohan supplement is done, but until then what do you do if you have horses in the Company's transportation pool?

It would greatly depend on the reason for the Riding test, in my mind. Athletics would suffice to stay in the saddle when one's horse rears, bolts, or must complete some tricky maneuver like leaping a hedge. Travel would suffice to pace one's horse during a journey so as not to tire or injure it. I would guess the cultural blessing of the Riders of Rohan involves horse-mastery; for others, a Horsemanship trait may prove useful. None of the various heroic cultures of Wilderland, however, really has a tradition of using mounts.

My way of thinking as well, however, one of our players (the Elf) got it into his head that becoming a horse breeder was a good investment and idea. Not exactly sure where it came from, I think he was tired of our characters always walking. Also, another player decided he was going to become the first Dwarven cavalryman in ME, on a pony! End result was very humourous. -------------------- "It's all the deep end."
