Hey,

While the "search" feature on the forum is broken, just use this:

google the tor forum

Once the page loads, replace the word "search" in the search field with the word or phrase you're looking for.

I know most of you probably know how to do this, but just in case you don't, this should work for you.

Yours in fellowship,
Stephen "Trotter"

James,

I was just looking at the ToR resources to see what was new, and somehow I missed your reply. Sorry about that! I've just become a dad, and life leading up and following has been hectic and exciting! I'll post some photos of the baby hobbit Saxon soon.

I hope the search workaround has been useful. I wish I could remember where I learned the trick so I could give attribution, but it's been so long I've forgotten.

Yours in fellowship,
Stephen "Trotter", aka Saxon's dad

Hobbit Saxons! This is how rumors get started! tongue.gif

My 8-day-old son is Saxon Calhoun Holland. I'm going to have to find some hairy hobbit-feet shoes for Halloween!

Ack!

I thought 'Saxon' was some kind of nickname or pictographic allusion to the child. Not his actual legal birth name. Congratulations!

Oh my! But apparently it is red-headed hobbits who have donated their feet...

Note: The hair on the Hobbit Feet is more red than brown.

Although the picture seems to indicate otherwise. Maybe they mean the hair is auburn in color?

Search Addendum

I have just noticed a loophole when using the Search feature Trotter suggested. Goggle is only searching the message contents, not the "header" information such as the poster's name, member number, etc on the left. This makes searching for "all messages by <Username>" impossible... unless you include your name within the message area, like in your signature.

So, if I used the link above to have Google search through the C7 Forums for "JamesRBrown" (used here because he is a regular contributor, including in this very thread, and has some nifty supplements he's released) I would get every message that other users have posted where they use his name, but absolutely none of his own messages. Unless he edits a message and clicks on the Edited checkbox, or there is a qoute by him inside the message contents.

Now if James altered his signature from:
CODE

TOR Supplements & Helps created by me:
Shadow Word Doc | Journey Rules Summary | TOR Battle Mat

To something like:
CODE

TOR Supplements & Helps created by me, JamesRBrown:
Shadow Word Doc | Journey Rules Summary | TOR Battle Mat

It should update all of the messages he's written making them searchable via Google without having to manually edit all of them. Not to mention this is preferable to necroing the 7000+ messages in 600+ topics posted in the TOR Forum alone!

Keep in mind that while you may not think your messages are particularly valuable, other forum members might be looking for something you wrote that perfectly met their needs. Yet because of this search snafu they cannot re-locate it!
