She was kown as dernhelm because of her exclaimation when she realized that the rider's headgear was heavy and obscured her sight. 'Dern Helm" Culled from Entmoot From Kirinski 57 and Wayfarer.

While not specific for adventurers in a fantasy setting, most of the "Dangerous Book for Boys" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dangerous_Book_for_Boys) applies.

Likewise, http://www.shu.edu/offices/upload/FM-7-8.pdf has a scan of an older edition of US Army FM 7-8 Infantry Rifle Platoon and Squad... which said, the squad tactics of which apply quite well to archers.

Also online is STP 21-1 Soldier's Manual of Common Tasks. Many of which are survival oriented. http://www.25idl.army.mil/commontasks.pdf
