Hey all, last game, my players ended Don't Leave the Path and wound up at the Easterly Inn so as to allow for a Fellowship Phase to occur there - perfect for lining up the Stewed Hobbits adventure.

In the vein of the Laketown Sourcebook, I have a want to provide other options for tasks to do during a Fellowship Phase - such as the picking flowers etc, that may be useful.

What (if any) of the flowers in that supplement would be appropriate for the Anduin Vale there, and what other plants can we add to the mix? Ideas anyone???

What about other such tasks to do; obviously the Receive Title nor the Marketplace-pool to find upgraded equipment is not appropriate for the inn, but are there other ideas such as these that can be inspired by these ideas???

My game is tonight, it didn't dawn on me to come up with something like this until this morning and I haven't had time to deal with planning the game (my father's funeral was this week) or else I would have taken time to come up with my own ideas. So now I'm coming to you all for assistance, since time is short.

Thanks.

The tasks in the books are just examples. Ask your players what they want to do... and let them narrate how they do it. During the Fellowship Phase the players get to be the primary storytellers. If they can't think of anything, that's when you show them the examples in the books.

Any task undertaken during the Fellowship Phase should be a long-term project lasting most of the phase, that betters the character or the party is some way that is not related to Advancement Points, Experience Points, Rewards, or Virtues (as these have already been taken care of). If any of them are interested in any project that meets these criteria, that's their task for the phase. Any gains should be comparable to those in the examples.

Stormcrow summarizes it well.

With a little work, the goldsmith, ironmonger or a woodwright, musical instrument, salves and healing herbs, robust rope (et al), tailor or shoemaker, or master hunter might fit the Beornings or Woodmen. The former live not far from the inn, so it's not a stretch biggrin.gif

Not familiar with the Laketown sourcebook. So there are specific Fellowship phase actions? Interesting.

Edit: I keep trying to type "-specific" and the forum keeps dropping the word ""!!! GRRRRR

Edit Edit:

EDIT EDIT EDIT: L O C A T I O N

EDITx4: That is WEIRD. I can't type the word L-O-C-A-T-I-O-N, either all caps or lowercase, and have it be rendered on this forum. FREAKY

Thanks Stormcrow.

Your info is helpful. As I said, time is short because the game is in a few hours (and I'm at work till then). I wondered if anyone else added "Laketown"-esque fellowship phase ideas for their players when they were at the Easterly Inn or if anyone had come up with any at all.....

Other plant ideas also.

Those in the book are good for reference, but I wondered if there were others more specific to that region/inn that might be worth considering.

I do indeed allow the players to narrate; but only half of my eight players are really good at conceptualizing ideas like this; the other need guidance/examples.

Thanks

@Crafty YES - there are new fellowship tasks in that book. They nice to read - not earthshattering have to have it kinda way - but it does provide thought fodder for how to do the same for other regions.

Sounds like you need to challenge your players to get them to do their part! They already have examples—in the rule books. smile.gif

That's great in theory. They are who they are, and some just refuse to change - so why force the issue. As their friend, I merely accept their so-called 'flaws' hehe and adapt. That's what friends do - overlook the differences and celebrate our similarities. They love to play RPGs with us - so I don't really force a "style" that they have to play it. They're more into the combat and journey hazards/events etc. For them, they play MMOs alot, and so the roleplaying takes a backseat and that's okay; at least they're interested in playing.

So the more help I can be to bridge the gap of play-style differences, the better. We can't all be tolkien loremasters and thespians. And I'm okay with that. As long as we're having fun together, that's what matters.

This is great stuff Treadwell! Thanks for posting that.

Unfortunately my game was cancelled last Friday as three of my 7 players couldn't make it.

But that unfortunate issue turns into a positive that I needed to postpone the Fellowship Phase spent at Easterly Inn till next time we meet (sadly that won't be till 6/28. Only Pathfinder games scheduled between now and then).

Now all that's left for me to do is figure out what "in game statistical benefit" these provide based on the narrative you provided.

Thanks again
Robert
