We talk alot about the Gandalf Tengwar rune, but should it not be a Cirth rune?

I haven't seen anyone refer to either as the same thing. I think they would be confusing the Gandalf rune on the d12 and the Tengwar rune on the d6.

I'm not even sure I understand the question. Reading it it seems to me like you call the Gandalf rune = Tengwar rune. But in game they are two separate Runes. - the Gandalf rune (Cirth) is the G rune on the d12 (looks like a futhark F) - the Tengwar rune is the small rune on the 6-face of the d6 (looks like a small Greek Sigma or Tau) So... what was the question again? Should we call it Cirth instead of Gandalf because that is where it come from, and that would keep it in line with the same logic as we use for the d6? .... sure... maybe, why not. But I'd stick with the common consensus among the players here and as used in the rules, to avoid confusion. /wolf -------------------- "Pain, as the billing vouchsafes, is painful..."

While we're (vaguely) on the subject: was anybody else disappointed by the transliteration of Elder Futhark on the cover instead of Cirth?

The emblem on the cover of the game books has a block of runes set underneath it. These are Elder Futhark runes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elder_Futhark) - a real world script system. I had expected them to be Cirth runes, since those would be appropriate for a Middle-earth game. Cirth and Elder Futhark share the same glyphs, but the inscription reads nonsense if you translate them into Cirth. The runes transliterate into "One Ring to Rule Them All" in Elder Futhark, however.

Ah, thanks. That's interesting. Maybe the devs found it easier? :S

It helps prove my suspicion that the creators had The Hobbit far more in mind than The Lord of the Rings. |
