Hope it's okay to post this here! See if you can spot Gandalf encountering a rather crazed Thrain in Dol Guldur.

If some of those scenes are from Gandalfs encounter with Thrain in Dul Goldur he shouldnt be packing Glamdring. However if it is during the driving out period while the company is still traveling east then he would have his sword by then. |

I wouldn't be surpised if some events have been condensed. You are also assuming the Gandalf gets is sword from the troll hoard, which may not be the case in the film. |

I doubt theyndid that misstake, especially since they have included details like no encarving on sting. Those scenes could be from the assault and the cast away of the necromancer. Wouldnt suprize me that the movie ends where the dwarves gets captured by the elves and the assualt of dol guldur begins. Also, could be a scene from where Gandalf fights to get inside the mountain through an outpost to save the dwarves and Bilbo to save them from the goblin king. We will see what those scenes are about. |

I'm betting the first movie will end soon after the escape from Goblin-Town ... or, perhaps, just as Gandalf departs at the eaves of Mirkwood to head south to deal with "The Necromancer." -------------------- My TOR Resources:

In a frame by frame breakdown on theonering.net it was pointed out that this is likely a flashback to Gandalfs encounter with a crazed Thrain in Dol Guldur. It was pointed out that upon close examination he is not carrying Glamdring, it is a different sword and he apears to be fighting of a crazed dwarf like creature. Makes sense. PJ did similar things in the LotR trilogy. Shooting flashbacks that were merely recounted second hand in the books as movie scenes such as the escape from Orthanc and the casting down of the Balrog.

Of course, since the entire movie is shot as a flashback (Bilbo recounting the story to Frodo), that means that we'll have flashbacks within flashbacks. |

I thought that the first film ends after the battle of the five armies and that the second film is about the time between the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings.

My understanding is that the two movies cover the Hobbit. Extra material regarding Dol Guldur, the White Council and the Necromancer (which take place within the rime of the Hobbit but are off screen) means that it now runs as two movies. So it's not movie 1 - Hobbit and movie 2 - Interlude but movie 1 - Hobbit+ pt1 and movie 2 - Hobbit+ pt 2 (again as far as I understand). I am expecting the first movie to end near Laketown (somewhere between the Spiders and Smaug) unless they orchestrate the Necromancer climax earlier than I expect. -------------------- “There is nothing like looking, if you want to find something. ... They wouldn't do this. It would make the first movie The Hobbit and the second movie something else entirely. Both movies have to be The Hobbit all the way through to qualify as The Hobbit. |
