I really, really, really like the new game.
I just hope that C7 doesn't drop the ball and let tOR fizzle. Currently there are several new games out there that all had great potential and have all but disappeared. All due to the companies not being able to publish in a timely manner. Green Ronin's "Dragon Age" system had great potential but they are more than a year behind on their release schedule. Almost as bad for the DC Adventures game. Closer to home C7's Dr Who game has been plagued with delays and lack of support. Which is a shame since it is an outstanding system. And whatever happened to Primeval? So I hope we will see more support material soon! I desperately want to give them my money in exchange for interesting words on paper. |

I know what you mean, I preordered Dragon Age Set 2 and bought the discounted PDF's. The latter arrived, but still waiting for the box to be released. And over a month ago Green Ronin said it was arriving soon, but still no sign of it. Same with DC Adventures, but I won't be buying the heroes and villains books as I prefer to make my own to suit the hero team. Both of those systems will be gathering dust for a while, as I have a feeling that TOR will be keeping my group busy for several months.
Likewise on material. However, given a choice of a rushed book, or a good one, I'd rather have quality to match the core books! |

That's true, but the books still need to come out in a reasonable time period or customers will loose interest. What is a reasonable time frame varies depending on who you ask... ![]() |

The One Ring will be a challenge for C7 I think. Its definitely one step up on their previous licenced RPGs in terms of potential appeal and I hope that they rise to the challenge. I also think that TOR can really capitalise on what has become an empty spot in the RPG market today of big name fantasy licences with simple rulesets. The One Ring AotEotW is an amazing product but the product line requires a balance of quality and speed which that first product wasn't burdened by. Especially where you have a seperate licenceholder and a licensor to grapple with. Personally, if we get quarterly releases I will be happy (meaning 3 releases between the 3 Core Products. On saying that, the Campaign Guide does need to released before Xmas for the line to blossom early which will have a pay off downstream. Let's hope we hear something soon, even if its about dice and the GM Screen, both of which are products that ideally should have been announced on TOR's release and available within a month or so after that. Finally, we do need to remember that the RPG hasn't been released through major distribution channels yet, so all of the above really only kicksoff in September to be fair. ![]() -------------------- “There is nothing like looking, if you want to find something. ... We fans want TOR to have lots of customers too! We want to spread the Good Word, and a proportion of customers are likely to become fellow fans. And even on a purely mercenary level, we want customer-dollars adding encouragement for more stuff to continue to be published. I'm not sure whether it's C7, or Sophisticated, who're likely to be the limiting factor on what comes out. Until he's shared more, and more other authors have reached the position of being able to contribute, I think we're dependent on Francesco himself. I couldn't agree more. If your game group enjoys the game, help support it by buying sets to go around to each player. We did it with D&D, each player had the player's handbook. Maybe there is something the publisher could consider, releasing a premium quality Adventurer's Book that would withstand the rigors of many game sessions and hours of study Some players might not buy the complete set, but might be compelled to get the Adventurer's book. I might also be compelled to get a hardcopy LM Book were that available if it were of good quality binding and materials. Yeah well... we did too, but to be honest I think the comparison falters a little. I mean the DnD PHB was like 10 bucks... (due to ridiculously large amounts of books at the Printer lowering the printing cost). But I agree with you in spirit. /wolf -------------------- "Pain, as the billing vouchsafes, is painful..."

I might have mentioned that the PDF versions should not be printed out and handed around the table, but such a statement would not pertain to and might be considered rude by such staunch supporters as yourselves :-)

We have already been told that 2 other core sets will be released. I plan on buying them, even if they are released a year apart.
I think TOR is a good enough game already to keep me playing for a long time. The system allows for creative additions and tweaks. I can easily create monsters, new weapons, hazards, virtues, rewards, etc. Yes, after a year I will be longing to explore beyond Wilderland I'm sure. Even so, there are so many hexes to discover ![]() -------------------- Please visit my blog, Advancement Points: The One Ring Files, for my TOR Resources
