How would you handle other throwing weapons besides spear, like knives and axes?

I would just use the stats for axe, Use half the range for thrown spears and change the called shot to Break Shield. See the Wikipedia entry for Francisca and the referenrom obtained therein from the Roman historian-Procopius.
