Okay - The rules and production values really cannot be faulted. Ontop of this the mechanics are some of the best I have seen in way too long.

However one thing I would like to see is a Hardbacked edition of the rules. A combined Players/Loremasters would be fine and I feel I must say that I would love it in a leatherette style a la Mongoose's RQII releases.

Reason I would like a HB is that already my precious books are taking some damage from use and I can see more coming from (a lot) of gaming table usage.

I am also sure it would be really popular too !

Also , collectable for Tolkien fans in general if marketed right. Maybe , if you follow the ltd edition angle get the Authors and C7 staff to sign them too (Bit like the Deadlands : Reloaded etc... etc...)

Many thoughts about what you could do with such a release but here is a start. What do others think ? Would you buy it ?

Hardback maybe.

Collectors edition almost certainly, unless the price was ludicrous!

I would certainly buy it. I can refer to the PDF if I want to avoid damage, or even print it out. For players at the table who don't own the books, I tend to have a bound copy about (so they don't damage mine)... But it's not the same. A hardback alone would wonderful, and something qualifying as a collectable would be utterly amazing.

A leatherette-bound hardcopy Collector's edition would be great - I'd buy one in a flash.

A leather bound edition would go wonderfully with my Green Slipcase Hobbit, Red Slipcase LotR and my 50th anniversary LotR Slipcase!

Maybe do it as a Kickstarter project? Set a price point and see who buys. If you hit the goal, it's funded and everybody's happy, if not, well we ALL tried, not just C7

Also, for additional pledges above the book amount, you could add in Dice, rolled copies of the Maps (not folded ones), maybe even promotional art prints seen in the books.

Count me in on buying one!!!

A kickstarter project would be an interesting way to make sure there was enough interest to support such a project!

Love the current look, but would definitely get a hardcover as well if it was available.

I remember reading that there are some issues in accessing Kickstarter outside the US. Is this true?

I'll tell you what I'd buy over a hardback. A vinyl player's map that you could use grease pencils or wet erase markers on.

I had one printed full-size and laminated at a local copy shop. It was about $20.

Laminate doesn't really compare with vinyl. I love my vinyl map of Athas that WotC put out...

I just wanted to chime in with the rest of the choir and say that I would also be interested in a Hard Bound copy of the game.

I'd definitely pick up a hardback and/or collectible version of the rules, and would contribute to a kickstarter for one. I think kickstarter is the way to go for something like this.

I've already chimed in on a hardback version, but I also agree with the map idea. A full-size map we could write on with wet or dry erase markers would be awesome!

I vote for these extras too, but only if they don't hold up new product smile.gif

Oooooh...I think a wet/dry erase map would be fantastic! A collector's hardback'd be nice, too. As Skywalker pointed out, though, these are only worth it provided there would be no delay in other products.

Like the map idea, but could you laminate it to get the same effect? Are there shops that will laminate something that big?

Of course you can. And of course there are.

I have purchased a Laminating machine myself that can do A4 size... and it cost me like 30 USD... next to nothing.

A4 is smaller for sure but for 30 bucks for personal use... I'd assume the industry can laminate entire football fields if you cough up the dough.

I picked up an A3 laminator a while back for £20. Shop around and see what can be found.

The problem with a laminated map is it wipes clean, sometimes by accident, and the routes taken by players are permanent, so don't need erasing!

I've printed A3 maps for reference and laminated them, but to use as permanent record for the routes, I have A4 maps that I'll draw on.

Hmmm... A football field sized map would be pretty cool.

I just bought an A4 laminator as well and it's brilliant.

Edit - Crossposted: Damn wish I'd know I could have got A3...

Hi all

Thanks for the ideas! We are definitely interested in producing a limited edition and have talked a fair amount about the format. I'll keep an eye on this thread for more suggestions!

Our ideas have ranged from a deluxe version of the slipcase through to individual elements. We are thinking about culture-specific dice sets and other play aids, too - wold you be interested in these?

Love the culture-specific dice set idea. But a deluxe hardback edition of the core set is at the top of my list of wanna-haves.

Culture specific dice would be cool, I assume these would be for when you start manufacturing the individual sets?
And that reminds me, should a limited/ collectors edition be released with the same slipcase packaging method, a more permanent (and decorative?) dice tray would be fantastic.

This. But culture specific is not as important as a black set with mostly white numbers but a RED EYE to scare the crap out of my players.

I have to be honest, most of what I am hearing here I like the sound of, but I am not so keen on the dice tray idea. It was cute, and it had a beginning wow factor, but unless the tray has its own runners or some such to keep it where it is and not block the books being removed from the slipcase then I would prefer having the dice simply attached to the outside of the case in a little bag or something.

I like the idea of a hardbacked version, I always did have a soft spot for hardbacks, though the slipcase and box RPG's which C7 are releasing are great and bring back many memories. I also love that C7 have in at least two games I know of provided pretty much everything you will need in the one box.

I am not so bothered about culture specific dice, but not opposed to them either.

What I would love to see, apart from the hardback versions obviously, would be either the book itself, or the slipcase/box with some kind of leather style cover. I like the exterior art but I think something which was reminiscent of the red books or Bilbo's own diary would be nice. I already have a campaign folder with a brown suede style exterior, which just looks right for Middle Earth.

I did like the idea of the rolled maps, I would love to see a nice big poster map printed on a vellum-like paper. The current maps are nice though my adventurers map has already gotten a bit frayed on one of the folds, and I have not even used it in game yet.

E

I like the ideas so far. I'd like an official combat board with the rules printed on it to speed up that part of the game.

Now that's a good idea!

And if you can make it glow like it's burning... even better!

As for culture specific dice, fine by me, however, don't go too 'Q Workshop', as some of their dice are hard to read!

Any chance of making dice out of mithril? wink.gif

And I already cast my vote for a deluxe leather bound book near the start of this thread!

I'd also like a hardcover.

My books are already getting beat up, and I had to do a quick glue repair where the binding started to separate a bit. Probably my fault for leaving it in a hot car, but a sewn binding hardcover wouldn't have those sorts of issues.

This would be cool - maybe with some character/creature/npc tokens kinda like they have in the D&D 4E Monster Vaults or Warhammer 3E? Just so you can stick a token for your character in the appropriate stance slot and tokens for the opponents in another.

Not sure about a wipe-clean map, but how about an A4 pad of map sheets that the players (and GM) could draw on to their heart's content? (I know we can print our own maps out, but my printer just doesn't match professional printing standards...)

I'm up for a hardback collector's edition. And funky dice too - I'm a total sucker for that kinda thing, ask Games Workshop...
