Hello,

New to the forums here. I'm wondering if there are any open games of The One Ring going on on Google +, or if there's any interest in getting one going. Not that I'm offering to GM.

This is me, if anyone would be interested in getting a circle going.

Thanks,

Tim

Hi Marcelino!

It might be a good idea for anyone wanting to try it out to post a link to their G+ profile so that people can add one another.

Hey guys!

I'm tossing around the idea of this to be honest - as I have a couple of local players who're interested in playing TOR as well.

I just need to sort a few things out on this end, but I will feed back (as my gaming plate is beginning to fill up almost to the brim again...)

Good luck in the meantime though! smile.gif

Good idea. I've created a Circle and have shared it with the members on the Circle (unless you want to do the same). Added your Google+

This is me: https://plus.google.com/112452490185104873918/about

Joshuha Owen has been working on a huddle API plugin for rolling dice. Could use that to game through the Google+ huddle.

Alternatively, I've started working on a character sheet for Fantasy Grounds for The One Ring. We could use this if I GM as I've got a license allowing unregistered users of the software to connect. There's a Generic character sheet as well that will allow a game using FG2 in the meantime.

Small world it is smile.gif I thought I recognized the handle!

You've now been circled wink.gif And I figured Josh would be working on something for G+ - can't keep that guy tied down for long when it comes to gaming code. I know one guy over this side of the channel is working on an FGII ruleset for TOR, so could be interesting.

I'm working on putting together a Diaspora game thru G+ Hangouts...so will feedback on that.

This is probably the one forum where the handle is most appropriate, and where the joke in the handle name is likely to be recognised. Added you to the "The One Ring" Circle I set up. I assume shared circles appear on your circles list.

Awesome.

There's a very good faq over at D&D with Pornstars about running with G+.

If you're not familiar with that blog, it's by the author of Vornheim, and is really quite good for old school gaming. It really has very little to do with porn or pornstars. Still....NSFW.

TBH mate - I don't think I can see what circle you added me to. Seeing as I know you from elsewhere, I have you in my Friends one wink.gif

Looking for ideas and suggestions...

I have some friends scattered about who want to play TOR. Two are local and the other three in another part of the country. Together they want to form a fellowship and start playing. All my GM experience is in sitting across the table from my fellow gamers.

Being new to virtual gaming and p-b-p, I was wondering what those more experienced with gaming this way might suggest. What are some good options for putting together a campaign online?

Just recently, I jumped into a p-b-p game to get a feel for that. And, I've seen a few websites mentioned including one in this link. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Eluadin,

I'm a neophyte at this, myself, so I can't really speak from experience. If you follow the link I posted above, there's a considerable amount of advice on using Google's suite of tools to game in conjunction with video.

PbP seems to be very detailed but moves at a very slow pace.

Fantasy Grounds (mentioned earlier in the thread) is an RPG specific solution for online gaming, but I know nothing about it.

Obsidian Portal might be a good way to organize common information for your group, regardless of the format you choose.

Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in.

Good luck!

I'm a Fantasy Grounder too, but not a programmer. I have the DM version and I'm really glad to see some other FG'ers up here! Here's my G+, I've created a "One Ring" circle as well.

https://plus.google.com/u/0/114309384830778101682#me/posts

The Fantasy Grounds website is http://www.FantasyGrounds.com. This is an online table top program that facilitates RPG play over the internet. In combination with a voice chat I've had a great time with it and been able to keep playing RPG's even with friends scattered across the U.S.

First post here, but I'm on the FG boards and ENWorld boards occasionally as well!

I haven't run a TOR game online yet, but I've run and played in Pathfinder games online. MapTool and Skype (or Ventrilo) are pretty good tools for online gaming as well.

I really don't think it would take much to run online. Some sort of way to communicate (voice or chat) would be the only real requirement. Everyone could use Azrapse's character sheets from the other thread, and the die roller too.

The character sheets aren't shared I don't think, but I haven't tried that functionality.

That's pretty much it.

Our group actually stays more focused on the game playing online than when we would play in person.

Agreed - that's one of the things that attracts me to TOR (asides from being Middle-earth). Voice chat alone gets one pretty far.

If someone doesn't want to tackle MapTool, but still want some sharing then Twiddla could be used: http://www.twiddla.com/

Once my coaching of my daughters soccer team wraps up in late October I am seriously considering running an online TOR game.

I have found that my current gaming group tends to stay more focused when we run over voice chat and VTT on occasions where we can't get everyone in the same place. I've had good success with online gaming the times I have done it.

No matter what program or method is used online gaming is definitely something gamers should try. I agree with your experience IW, my group's experiences have been almost overwhelmingly positive playing online.

I would encourage anyone interested to give online RPG gaming a try when/if possible.

For me, it's currently the only way. I'm known here in Denmark as "Billy No Mates" and do all my gaming online because there's simply no-one to play with in my locality. blink.gif

Can do, I've not progressed much with it so far. Just the heading level info on each sheet. I'm using the new Foundation core as the base, with the intent to translate the character sheet / NPC sheet in to an extension for this once complete.

To all those who chimed in on this post with ideas and suggestions, thanks!

I think I am going to use one of the online character tools, most likely the one with the character server where you can save group of characters. I haven't tried the dice roller in the chat window, but that sounds perfect for my needs.

http://azrapse.es/tor/sheet.html

Now I need to pick a com-medium for voice at the least and maybe use Obsidian Portal for recording the campaign? I am going to have spend a wee bit of time with the G+ before diving into that...
