QUOTE ("RotK: Appendix F")
But at the End of the Third Age a Troll race not before seen appeared in Southern Mirkwood and in the mountain borders of Mordor. Olog-hai they were called in the Black Speech.
That Sauron bred them none doubted, thought from what stock was not known. Some held that they were not trolls but giant orcs; but the Olog=hai were in fashion of body and mind unlike even the largest of orc-kind, whom they far surpassed in size in power. Trolls they were, but filled with the evil of their master: a fell race, strong, agile, fierce and cunning, but harder than stone. Unlike the older race of the Twilight they could endure the Sun, so long as the will of Sauron held sway over them. They spoke little, and the only tongue they knew was the black-speech of Barad-Dur

The daylight-tolerant trolls are referred to as "Hill Trolls from Gorgoroth" in "The Black Gate Opens."

Question:

Are there daylight-tolerant trolls running around in the wilderlands?

Do all trolls turn to stone in the sunlight or just stone trolls?

According to the Olag-hai description in Decipher's "Lord of the rings" RPG they don't turn to stone when sunlight touches them, but they don't like it either so suffer modifiers while in sunlight condition, unles the Dark Lord is in direct control of them, then they suffer no ill-effects what-so-ever.

Now, that being said, I am not sure how they are/will be set up in TOR. Our Comapny fought a Troll in one of our early games, and it just about killed two of the party...I shudder to think about facing off against an Olag-hai. blink.gif

That pretty much covers things as I recall them.

Operating on their own recognizance, rather than being infused with Sauron's will, any of the former "Denizen of the Dark" sunlight-modified creatures operate at a reduced capability while in direct sunlight. In gloomy conditions (bad weather or within forests) the penalty is removed and they operate at full capability.

When Sauron's will drives them, they are in a kind of battle frenzy where they ignore natural lighting conditions entirely and operate at full capability. They are still susceptible to magical lighting affects per the Lantern of Balthi, Gandalf's Ray of Sun, etc and probably act and re-act from such attacks as though suddenly illuminated while in the dark.
