Greetings everyone. This is my first post here in these forums.
![]() I've been working in a little project about making a 'live version' of the character sheet in The One Ring game. I've moved far from my friends and I want to have an online version of the sheet for our remote, voicechat games . For the Decipher game we used a spreadsheet in Google Docs, but for this one I've decided to make it a webpage full of javascript goodies. The initial version lets you create a character from scratch, with a wizard (an assistant, not an Istari...) that takes you to the different steps of character creation in The One Ring. Initially this was meant just to ease the process to create a character, and produces a visual character sheet to be copied to a real paper one. For future versions I plan to let you save your character online and let you keep on updating it so that it can serve as a live online version of every character's sheet that every player can see up-to-date in any moment, a bit how a Google doc works. I've decided to share it with you people in its current unfinished state because I'm really interested on opinions for improving it. Also, the basic functionality of creating a character works fine, I think You can get it at http://azrapse.es/tor/sheet.html Instructions: - Open it with any modern standard-compliant browser like Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari, Android, etc. Don't even bother trying it with Internet Explorer. - Make sure you have javascript enabled (unless you tinker with your browser really advanced options or you have a blocking plugin, it should be by default). It works purely using javascript for everything. - To start the creation wizard, click on the Create New Character button, up to the right. - To manually alter the rank of a skill after creation, click on a rank icon. You can also click on the status checkboxes to toggle them. - You can type on every text field. - You can find explanations of most terms if you hover the mouse pointer over them. Limitations: - In the current version, you can't still change the 'favoured' state of a skill, beyond the creation wizard. - The sheet still doesn't let you spend advancement points or non-initial XP. - The sheet still doesn't let you save your character. Please print it to PDF or take a screenshot. ![]() Please, leave your comments, opinions and suggestions. I will really appreciate them. Thanks. ![]() -------------------- |

It's beautiful mate!
I want one! :-) Good job. Feedback/Suggestions: 1. Some "hover text boxes" like Hound of Mirkwood and some other from the Cultural Virtue list are too big, or placed in a way that part of the text disapear from view (i.e. outside the browser window) I suspect this will change depending on Screen resolution etc. but I have a pretty big screen... and there is room to spare, it's just that the box seem centered over what you hover over... maybe this could be changed? I don't know. 2. Would it be possible to have selection of equipment and auto population of the data for said equipment, combined with Fatigue Calculation maybe? (I noticed it was possible to Edit manually) Other than that... I can't see anything I would have added. /wolf -------------------- "Pain, as the billing vouchsafes, is painful..."

Thank you for the warm welcome.
![]() Yes, yes! I plan on adding gear selection and Fatigue calculation based on the total encumbrance sum. It's a bit tricky because some cultural virtues or blessings alter the Fatigue calculation, or other stats like parry, based on modifiers to the encumbrance. But I plan on adding all of that. I've been reported already of some bugs regarding hobbit weapon skill ranks being too low, or racial favoured skills not being properly noted down. I'll have that fixed hopefully later today. ![]() Oh, and also I think I will make the tooltip window have a maximum vertical size so that it doesn't overflows the browser window, and grow horizontally instead. I'll just have to try a solution. -------------------- |

Keep up the good work. Feedback: I was doing previous experience points when I accidentally double-clicked a skill and dumped more points than I wanted. I couldn't find a way to retrieve the points -------------------- You never know how Bright you are until you have met True Darkness

One more thing to suggest:
Weapon stats for "2h" weapons don't fit in the space given. I don't know how you guys handle this but for 2h Weapons I like to note my Damage like this: "5/7" Which is fine... I can fit that on the sheet... but then comes the Injury value and I would like to note that as: "18/20" And that will not fit into the space given. The Printout only says: "18/" I don't know... maybe I should just use two lines instead? /wolf -------------------- "Pain, as the billing vouchsafes, is painful..."

Hi all. Some little update.
![]() Bugfixes:
![]() * The "Keen" quality is available now. * Hobbits now have two ranks on a weapon skill for every of their weapon skill packages. * Weapon skill stat boxes such as Damage, Edge, Injury and Enc are now wider to allow double numbers for two handling modes weapons. * Description tooltips, specially the big ones such as Hound of Mirwkwood, now always try to stay inside the window instead of overflowing it from the sides. * The Create New Character button now cleans the character sheet and allows to start the creation of a character all over instead of messing everything up. New Features:
* Weapon and gear encumbrance are added to autocompute Fatigue everytime an encumbrance value is manually changed. * You can reset the Previous XP assignment using the Reset button in case you aren't happy with how you have spent your 10 Previous XP, as long as you don't press the Next button. Planned soon:
* Allow gear selection from a list. * Allow trait, virtue and reward selection from a list after creation. * Allow toggling a skill favoured after creation. * Allow saving and loading characters. The updated sheet is in the same url as before: http://azrapse.es/tor/sheet.html I bet you can find a lot of bugs in the new version that I've not got yet. If you find any, please, tell me so that I can squish it. ![]() Any other features you would like implemented? -------------------- |

Very nice work.
This is not extremely necessary but the ability to control the tool-tip time delay, or an on-off toggle would be nice, especially if you could turn it on/off between picks. -------------------- You never know how Bright you are until you have met True Darkness

I can do that.
I'll try adding a delay before the tooltip appears and, also, add a button to toggle the tooltip appearing or not. -------------------- |

The favoured skill for the "3 - Fairy Heritage" background of the Woodmen should be Awareness instead of Search. This will most likely be included in an official errata document.
It is pretty intuitive anyway since a) the description makes reference to "very sharp senses", referring not to Search but to Awareness, and b) all the backgrounds of a given culture should have a different favoured skill, and background "4 - Apprentice to the Mountain-folk" has Search as favoured, where the description talks about "spending long days searching underground". Amado. |

I don't know that either of these points necessarily hold water. 1) "Very sharp senses" could also easily apply to the Search skill, which is an active use of those same senses. 2) All backgrounds should have a different favoured skill (emphasis mine). Where is this stated? I agree that every other background differs, but is this necessarily the norm? -------------------- "I never ask a man what his business is, for it never interests me. Amado, thanks, that makes sense. Any idea when we will see an official errata document? I'm sure there will be a bunch of revisions to it, but a couple of things that have come up will be helpful for everyone once the game is widely available -- particularly the clarification on resting to recover fatigue from journeys. |

Just wanted to say love this online sheet!
So far from what I see it works on iOS devices as well although the hover text really gets in the way as it thinks your constantly hovering. Mayb if the hover text were in a default frame where the create new, save, etc buttons were that would fix that issue right up. Again great work! |

Hi all!
![]() These are the latest changes made into the character sheet:
Special thanks to Amado for informing me of bugs and changes needed for the errata. Also a lot of thanks to him and Francesco for recommending the sheet in their Facebook walls. ![]() I'm starting to think that the sheet is rather usable in its current state. I can only think on adding server-side saving for the characters and maybe context-menu selection for traits and standard of living. Please, if you can think on any feature you would like added, or you find some bug, report it here so that we can improve it. ![]() -------------------- |

Did some more testing with my iPad and I can now actually get through character creation, but the final product the font size on a few of the boxes are to big to view them.

I see that for some reason the text boxes for the attributes and small stats appear to be really narrow on the iPad browser. I'll have a look to see what I can do to solve it. -------------------- |

Greetings again. This is the new bunch of changes.
![]() I think we are reaching a point we could say the sheet is almost complete and usable for online play, except maybe lacking the functionality of being able to save the character online and not in a text chunk. I've added many little things today. If you find any mistake please let me know. ![]()
That's all for today. If you have any features you would like to see, please, let me know. Regarding the iPad compatibility, I'm still unsure why some text boxes appear narrower than they should on its browser. I've tried with Safari and with my Android phone browser and it looks nice. Unfortunately I have no iPad and I can't perform frequent tests other than the screenshot you people send to me. I hope I can fix this sometime because I understand that having the electronic character sheet on an iPad is quite cool. -------------------- |

Azrapse,
I did a little testing with different browsers on the iPad using the mercury web browser and adjusted the font size as it allows that functionality and when I lowered it I could see the text in the text boxes without issue. So this leads me to believe that it has something to do with how iOS safari handles the font ant it's size. I am not sure if this will be of assistance but maybe setting it to not adjust as per http://developer.apple.com/library/safari/...heTextSize.html might help? Or even http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6210788...size-adjustment. Here is the image: http://flic.kr/p/ahd4GA |

Hey folks,
Azrapse, this is a way cool utility. Just to check it out I tried plugging in the first character I've seen generated in my group, and everything was a smooth and perfect experience. (A lot smoother than the manual character creation, where I allowed some freedom in moving to and fro within the book, and got kinda lost a few times.) I know it's outside your stated use for the character sheet, but the thing I attempted to do was edit the text in a few places:
Maybe it'd be nice if they cold be Saved? In the case of Herbal Remedies, there will be the need to specify when the character has gained the next item after Fragrant Weeds. The same would be true for the Wood-elf Magic virtue. And for Dwarves, the Broken Spells virtue allows a choice of any one of the three options available right when the virtue is first taken. Ok I may have sorted out part of the issue with it on the iPad... In looking at the CSS adding (for .witsBox, .heartBox, and .bodyBox):
For each item instead of and getting rid of:
Fixed the issue with the regular attribute boxes, now I haven't seen if it will fix it for the "favored ones", but the z-index may have to be futzed with a little for them as well. (Not saying that this is the best way to fix this issue, but it does fix it) |

You know what? You are right. It could be really nice if the manually entered text could be saved... However it would require some deep changes to the saving/loading code... I have to think on that for some time, because the changes aren't trivial, but indeed it's a big flaw in the current functionality of this sheet. ![]() I'm thinking that maybe it could be fixed in this way: - You can no longer type directly on the gear, weapon, virtues, rewards, trait, standard, culture, weakness or blessing lines. Instead, you can only use the context menus to add or remove 'active items' (those words that highlight when you hover over them and show a tooltip). - You can add or edit a comment text to any active item that will display just after the name of the item. This comment text will be saved and loaded with the character. How does it sound? PD: The more I think on that the more advantages I find on it. Afterall, most mobile devices like iPads and iPhones can't even type manually on the text fields in this sheet because of the special kind of textfield I had to use to let you have active content on it. If everything could be done through context menus, even adding text comments, they would be able to write random stuff there too. -------------------- |

Wow. Thanks for your help fixing this problem. I will try adding those fixes to the sheet for next version. I quite don't understand why you have to separate the CSS style in 3 different cases when all of them are the same (and it works in all other browser, including Android ones). I guess it does no harm to do so other than to triplicate the same style. But if it works, it works, and then it's worth it. Again, a lot of thanks for spending your time researching this subject. ![]() -------------------- |

Ok doing some further testing it looks like your font sizes if they were adjusted just a little as well it would fix up all of the problems with display on an iPad.
The input boxes in the css where you have it set to 20pt change that to 18pt and the input boxes that are set to 14pt change them to 10pt. Also the favored input box css the width of the box should be changed from 24px to 33px this will help with the text showing up as they show up in your other sub boxes and their css is set to the 33px. I think with all these changes it makes it completely usable on an iPad and I totally commend your work on this it is fabulous! Thanks for the hints. I would not have been able to solve this without your help.
However, now I just fear that while it makes it look good on an iPad, could make it look worse on any other device. I have to check if there is a way to specify different CSS just for iPad and leave the other devices as they are. -------------------- |

Actually it looks fine on both PC and on iPad, the small change in font size is really not that noticeable on PC's since we are talking like 2 or 3 points.

Looks good for the attributes and the favored attributes, but the Endurance (it's starting score, and fatigue) and the Hope (it's starting score, and shadow) look like they need to be shrank too. Again I can't say how nice this is looking and has some really great functionality for all who will want to use it! |

I don't know why I haven't looked at this one yet, but I just added some gear for armor and the encumbrance field is a little small on the iPad and if it is double digits it gets trimmed. Great work Azrapse, thank you for working with me to get this working as good as it does on other platforms on the iPad! |
