Hey - this is looking fantastic!

Just a quick question - how hard would it be to code it to "save" the info in BB/Forum Code readable format?

QUOTE (Venger @ Aug 31 2011, 04:09 AM)
This is a great app. I don't plan on gaming online (but you never know) but is definitely a useful tool for anyone.

This is off topic a bit,
Out of curiosity, what other apps are useful to a GM/LM using an iPad?

There are a few apps out there that are universal, but most of them are fairly dependent on what kind of game your running.

Mostly I use goodreader for pdf's. Mainly one of the great things is that you can annotate on the pdf's and so you can make markup's, highlight and all kinds of things, which makes for marking init's on that page or conditions or even just the hit points of a monster easy.

I also use goodreader with a lot of my character sheets to keep track of my stats, or even in like a D&D 4e game to mark off which powers have been spent or keep track of conditions. Really being able to annotate is great, just like having a pencil and paper.

There are numerous tools for initiative tracking and dice macros which are handy but not nearly as handy as goodreader.

I don't know why I haven't looked at this one yet, but I just added some gear for armor and the encumbrance field is a little small on the iPad and if it is double digits it gets trimmed.

I guess I should do the same as before and make the input boxes a little bit wider and the font-size a littble bit smaller. Right?
Thanks for all the help, mate. smile.gif

It should not be too complicated. But surely it wouldn't look like a real character sheet. Maybe just all the stats listed?
If there is an interest on this I can add a button that produces forum message code for easy pasting on a post. smile.gif

That's basically all I'm looking for mate - just something to give a consistent look to character related postings smile.gif

I agree. Just posted the character I made, but needed lots of tinkering with text to do so.

Great work!

Do you plan to add the possibility to spend Experience and Advancement points?

And... I know it's not a "character sheet" thing, but a TOR dice roller would be very useful for any player!

Just added a dice roller. Enjoy. smile.gif

Also, it now supports spanish language (if your browser has spanish as preferred language, the whole thing will appear in Spanish. Thanks to Jordi Zamarreņo, the official translator, for the hard work of the translation. smile.gif

Next thing will be removing those annoying commas, and adding Forum Text Export function. smile.gif

Hi. I've been busy the last few days, but I come with another update. The much requested Forum Export, and some bugfixes. smile.gif
  • Added a button to export the character sheet to a forum. Copy the text generated into a forum post.
  • Fixed some problems regarding orphan commas and too long hafted axes that didn't fit into their assigned room.

What's the next thing you think it could use?

Hmmm the export to forum code button didn't do anything for me. I tested it in both chrome and firefox on my pc, unless there is something that I am missing smile.gif.

Yeah I did a character from a load and I also made one from scratch just in case. I would click the export button and nothing would happen.

Might just be me with an issue but all the other buttons do as they are supposed to. Should I see a window popup with th bbcode?

Please, try again. There was a little bug in the Gear lines that prevented the Export to Forum feature from properly working. If you had no gear selected there at all, it provoked an error. It should work now even without gear.

Also, I added some little feature to the dice roller. You can now roll the Feat die twice and keep the worst or best result.

Excellent stuff, very-very useful for first-time players, as a guide.

One small enhancement idea - could it be possible to display the current attribute values on the window where you select the favoured attributes?

Another thing that would be good is the option to go backwards in Character Creation... if you should change your mind...

But on the other hand you can just start over, it's not as if it takes more than a few clicks any how. I would just like a "back" button, next to the "next" button.

Hi all, people. Many days since last update, but I promise they are worthy of the wait. smile.gif
The Character Server is the biggest one. I hope it has not many bugs and you find it useful. Enjoy!

  • You can now go backwards in the character creation wizard.
  • You can now see the current attribute scores when selecting the favoured attributes.
  • Now you can only select the right kind of Gear in the first three rows of Gear.
  • The Armor, Headgear and Shield stats update when selecting Gear in the first three rows.
  • Now you can remove a piece of Gear.
  • Descriptions of weapons, armours and shields contain now stats of those items.
  • Added the Online Character Server window. You can now save your characters online and recover them from there in the future, share them with your friends and publish them so that everyone can see them.
    • You can organize all characters from one of your campaigns in one Character Group you can share with your players sending them the Group's
      access name and password.
    • Characters can be private (only those knowing the credentials can see or modify them) or public (everyone can see, but not modify them).
    • You can list all public characters from other users.

Hi all again. smile.gif
This is probably going to be the last big addition for some time. Mainly because I can't think on anything else to add without it starting to look too much beyond the initial premise of the project.
Also, the last addition -the online character server- has not had much popularity: barely 4 people created a character group or stored any character in the server. sad.gif

Even so, I'm adding one interesting missing piece to the machinery: a chat window.
What for?, you may think. Actually its main purpose isn't chatting. After all we have tens of chat clients like MSN, GTalk, Facebook, Skype, etc...
It's main purpose is to make the entire Web Sheet being able to serve as an online game support tool for sharing the character sheets and the dice rolls.
Before, you could roll some dice. But without being able to share it with anyone it was basically little more than a toy. Who is going to believe that you rolled a Rune of Gandalf and 3 tengwar runes just because you say so in MSN or Skype? They want to see it. biggrin.gif

And here it comes the new chat window to the rescue!
Enter the group credentials, you and your friends all in the same group, open the chat window and choose an alias. Then chat as much as you want or make dice rolls. Everything is sent to all other players connected to the group!
And all of this without installing anything, running anything, without Flash or Java applets or dangerous .EXE files. Everything working in just an HTML web page. smile.gif

I hope you like this feature. It was quite interesting to develop. And I hope it's useful for someone. biggrin.gif
If you find any bug, please report it here. And like always, any suggestion is welcome. smile.gif
Thanks all for your ideas and support all this time!
  • Added a chat window to talk and roll dice with other players in your same group. To make the chat work enter the group credentials in the Online Character Server and then click the Group Chat button. Enter your alias in the box above and type in the box below.
The dice rolls you make while you have the chat window open are sent to the chat.
  • Added the game logo on the sheet header. Thanks to Jordi Zamarreņo for the image.
  • Corrected the mistake in the stats shown in the description of buckler, shield and great shield.

Thanks for the nice words.
I'm sorry for halting the addition of new features but... I actually can't find out what else to add. biggrin.gif
Also, I have had not the chance to even play the game yet. My preordered books have not yet arrived and won't still do for some time, so I have not yet gotten to experience its shortcomings (as I guess most people here haven't either).
I have thought about adding a "combat board" that represents the different stances the characters and enemies can be at, so that you can drag this or that character name to the different stance areas and make the program roll for you against the right TN depending on the character's stance or the target's stance and substract Endurance points directly from the characters. But I don't really now if that is worth the effort or if it's going to be interesting for anyone because after all there is something special about rolling the dice yourself and that would substract from that feeling.

I love this app for the sheer fact that many players are lazy when making a character. This allows for all the aspects of creation to be readily available. When finished the final product can be printed out for game use. However, I've found that my printed versions seem to be cramped and cluttered at the bottom of the printouts. The biggest issue seems to be the 'headgear' item running into the smaller Armour bubble. Also on a recent run through the gear my character had ended up to be a confused mess at the bottom of the page.

But such is Faramir. Less reckless and eager than Boromir, but not less resolute."

You think you could add the character sheet back alongside the front? I'm thinking o storing one of my groups characters here. Both front and back, side by side (if it doesn't tank the great visual you've got going on) would be great.

Hey Azrapse!

Can't commend you enough about how much I appreciate this beautiful little tool. You rock!

I have one issue though:

I just created a Group and saved my Character to the Charater Server as a "public" character... now when I try to load it again I get an Error.

Something about "unexpected end of data" whatever that means...

Could you take "a butchers"?

I have removed the bug. You still can't have quotes in the character name, but at least it will not break down if you do. biggrin.gif Try typing ´ or ` if you want quotes. Anything but " or '.

PD: Yes I know. I should let you type any character, but this is just a fast dirty fix to keep people from having unaccesible characters. smile.gif

I know it may seems strange, but would it be too difficult to create a version usable offline? I don't have always a connection when we play.

Hmm...
The program is mostly an html+javascript page. It doesn't use any server-side language for the character generation or the menus. The only interaction with the server is the initial load, the pictures for the dice and the Online Character Server.

If you have a laptop for using it during the games, you can perfectly use the page. Do this:
- For each character sheet you want to have available, open a tab in your browser.
- Load a character in each of those tabs.
- While you have connection, roll some dice so that all the dice images are cached into your browser cache (the Gandalf Rune, the Eye of Sauron, the tengwar and the d12, d6 and the discarded d12 images).
- Instead of shutting down your laptop, hibernate it so that the browser stays open.

By doing this, you should be able to use the character sheets in those tabs until you close your browser.
