Wow! I just discovered this amazing tool tonight. Where in the world have I been? I love it. This will really help my players with much faster character creation and it will help our group to stay connected online.

My question is, are you going to add a second sheet to record things like treasure, Company roles, and Fellowship focus, etc.? That would be amazing.

Thank you for the compliments.

Yes, I plan both on adding the second sheet and reordering the first sheet for making it look like the revamped version from author Nepitello.

Hi.
I really like your online character builder.
Considering that TOR is now available in german and there are no other good character sheets available I would like to offer my help to translate your work to german so it will be useful for even more people.
If you would like me to help just contact me here.

Thanks all for your nice words. I promise I'll come soon with the other side of the sheet and maybe with Francesco's new layout for the weapon skills.

In respect to translations, I fear there is a huge amount of texts to translate. So the work could be daunting. It's funny how this little application ended having so much texts. Mainly the tooltip descriptions are to blame here.

If anyway you want to translate it you can get the english text file from
http://azrapse.es/tor/localization-en.html
that is where the program takes the english strings from. If you download that file and edit it with an UTF8-capable text editor, then mail it to me to azrapse (at) gmail (dot) com, I can upload it along with the english and spanish translations and you will be able to see the sheet in the translated language. smile.gif

I guess the "name" part is a variable and should be kept english?
I'll send the file to you when i am finished.

This is so nice. Walking through one character creation really helped me get my head around the character creation mechanics. I couldn't get over not rolling for the attributes. This sheet showed me how this system worked. Thank you for that.

I think this is one of the best web based character I've ever seen. I love it.

However, for some reason it sometimes give you a fatigue score for no apparent reason I can find at least.

Like this test character I made on a whim. From where does the 6 fatigue come from? I haven't added any gear, armour or weapons yet.

Name: Culture: Beorning Standard of Living: Martial

Yes. Usually every line comes with a name or id field with a text value, and then another field with text value. The first one should not be touched, as it is the identifier of the text string to be found by the program.

Okay, I found it.

The character generator assumes that you are okay with the rule about your Weapon Skills granting you automatically and for free one weapon for each of them.
Your character is carrying a Great Spear, an Axe, and a Dagger, that together sum 6 encumbrance (that is noted down in the Fatigue cell).
You don't have to note your weapons down in the Gear section in this version of the sheet. Your Weapon Skill rows are both used for telling which weapons you are carrying and how proficient you are at those weapons.

Okay. That explains it.

However, to be honest I'm not sure that's such a good solution because even if you have the skill there is nothing that says you have to take the free weapon or even that you just have to take one.
Plus it doesn't take into account how cultural weapons skills affect a character's encumbrance.

Might want want to consider from a design point of view splitting gear from weapon skills stats.

Indeed. The new version of the sheet will have the new layout that Francesco shared with us some time ago, where weapons and weapon skills are separated.

That will be interesting to see.

However, I think I found a bug but since you will redesign things it might not matter in the long run.

But the current automatic fatigue score based on weapon skills stats doesn't seem to work for dwarfs. It appears for all other cultures but not dwarfs.

That's weird because when I tried it yesterday and earlier today I didn't get a reduction, I got 0 in fatigue even after selecting a mail hauberk but now it seem to work...

Wonder what I did to cause it...

Any progress on the second page?

I just walked a couple of players through using this awesome tool today. One of them is a friend in the military who is leaving tomorrow to get back to base. I am hoping to actually start some online adventures with him while he's away and it would VERY nice to have all the stats together in one place.

Ok. YOU ARE AMAZING! This is officially the COOLEST, MOST COMPLETE and EASIEST tool I have ever used with a roleplaying game. And I am soooooooo thrilled it is connected with a setting and game that I love. Well done sir.

I hope that you continue to keep up the server and make more enhancements as the character sheets develop and evolve over the next couple of expansions...because this is going to be a part of every gaming session I host. I will use it for all demonstrations and introductions to the game.

Gone are the days of losing character sheets or reading bad handwriting or players having the wrong stats. As a Loremaster, I can assist everyone in character creation and upkeep more efficiently and I will have access to their characters anytime. This will help me in tailoring stories around their strengths and unique histories better.

Also, if we want to have a gaming session, distance is no longer a factor. Everyone can just sign in online, join the group chat, and BAM! We have ourselves a game. PERFECT!

Sincerely, Thank You.

Late to the party, but this builder is great. Easily the best I've come across for any game out there, thanks for putting it together!

I've got a couple of questions that I can't figure out.

Is it possible to change the Distinctive Features or put one in that isn't one the list (I'm trying to make a merry Beorning).

Is there way to mark a wound as treated?

Thanks again for the awsome builder!

Hi everyone! Three little changes. smile.gif
January 25th, 2012
  • You can now replace a Disctinctive Feature with another after creation. Click on the name of the feature to replace.
  • Added a new cell for Permanent Shadow.
  • Added a new check box for Wounds Treated.

Beautiful! You just keep making this better and better. I haven't had a chance to play online yet with my army friend, but I hope to very soon. I'm sure glad this tool is here.

Also, I am hosting a group of guys Friday night and will be setting up a new Fellowship. I can't wait to show them the new improvements and make more characters.

I have another question: Is there any possible way to save the group chat sessions as code or text? That would be amazing. I could go back and review the adventure and all the die rolls, etc. Then, if I wanted to reform it into story form, I could. I don't know, am I just dreaming?

Actually all the chat logs can be recovered. If there is any interest on that, I can make some way to recover the entire history of chat messages. But I don't know where to put it. If in the chat window or in a separate window or dump.

Perhaps the chat window itself could have a Save Adventure feature that allows you to title the current session.

Then, there could be a button underneath it that could say "Open Adventure" which opens a list of all saved Adventures you can choose from.

I would be interested in being able to access the text of my adventures as a document too though. One that I could save to my computer and edit later.

Hmm. That would require some changes in the database.
In order to have this functionality out as soon as possible I'm going to publish what I have done so far.
Sorry for the spamming of updates, but I have added 3 more bullet points for today's release:

January 25th, 2012
  • You can now replace a Disctinctive Feature with another after creation. Click on the name of the feature to replace.
  • Added a new cell for Permanent Shadow.
  • Added a new check box for Wounds Treated.
  • Group name, password and chat alias will be remembered from one session to the next.
  • A button to get the whole chat log for the group has been added to the Online window.
  • The chat window will behave closer to any other chat window in the world (messages will be added below) and it will not be emptied everytime itīs closed.

If you find any bug, please report it. smile.gif

  • Fatigue is now tracked in two distinct cells: Fatigue from Encumbrance and Fatigue from Travel. This will make it easier to know what to change when resting. There is also a new Total Fatigue cell, read-only, that gets automatically updated with the sum of Encumbrance + Travel fatigues.

When creating a character, is it possible to have the character sheet updated as choices are made so that you can see the scores you have chosen when making further ones?

The one thing I especially keep running into is not remembering the scores picked for Body, Heart, and Wits.

If the basic Attribute scores were put into the character sheet, it would also help when spending Xp on Common skills.

Just a request.

Also, any progress on being able to save chat sessions as text?

  • Changed the layout of the character sheet to separate Weapon Skills from Weapon Gear. Now you can have skills for weapons you don't carry, or vice versa. This solves the problem with Cultural weapon skills, like (Swords), not having values for the weapon stats.
Character Creation will give the character one weapon for every of his/her non-Cultural weapons skills. In order to have a weapon for a Cultural skill you have to select it manually left-clicking on a blank row in the weapons gear list.
(This change modified deeply how the characters are saved into the server. Please report any bugs. Don't be scared if you see some skills moving to different slots after updating a character to the new format).
  • During character creation, the character sheet is filled with the chosen data after every step, not only at the end.
  • Exporting to forum code updated for the new layout.
  • Listing characters (both public and private) from the Online Server now shows a better organized list of them, not a heap of boxes like before.
  • Some cosmetic changes.

Question: If you are in the middle of making a character and you want to change something or start over, what is the easiest way to do that? I just pressed Create a New Character to start over and it went kind of wonky. There were some stats filled in already instead of coming up with a new blank character sheet.

Possible Bugs:

#1. Carried weapon encumbrance is not being updated automatically. You have to do it manually.

#2. The stats for the cultural weapon skill set are not being updated on the sheet until later when XP is spent.

Suggestions (Please take these or leave them; they are just suggestions):

#1. On the final step of character creation, a note comes up reminding players to check their cultural blessing, virtues, or rewards and update their stats accordingly. Could you also add: Choose your weapons and armor?

#2. Could the chosen background description be filled in under Background for editing later?

#3. More space between the words "Skill Groups" and the Common Skill listings? It looks like everything is crammed.

#4. Can the Weapon Skills row move to the left a little, away from the word "headgear"?

#5. What about moving the "Gear" title over the armour, headgear, and shield listings (like the original) and putting the title "Carried Weapons" over the weapons?
