The fan made supplements have been quite impressive. Not only have they shown a love of the work but also great scholarship in creating cultures that fit the world

What would some of you like to see produced?

For me, it has to be 'Fords of Isen'.

A supplement detailing Rohan, Dunland, Isengard and Fangorn.

Come on TOR. Get it done..... biggrin.gif

It depends what you mean by a supplement. As I understand it, TOR was supposed to consist of three "core sets", one of which covered the lands west of Rivendell. I would like to see this released as soon as possible so Hobbits of the Shire have somewhere closer to home to adventure in. It's a huge area of land, populated by Hobbits, Rangers, Elves and Dwarves, and lots of places were the Shadow still lurks such as in the mountains west of mount Gundabad.

It isn't happening anymore Geekdad. There was a post some time ago where they shelved the 'three core set' plan. sad.gif

Just as with the Race/Culture question posted previously, I would rather have some new aspect of Middle-earth be revealed than either "more of the same" or "them again". Yeah, I know I'm basically asking for the impossible. Not to mention that one of the biggest "Canon Cops" on the forum is apparently heading over to the dark side (and no, Sauron is not my Daddy! ).

But there are ways in which this could be done. For instance, a much closer look at the Dunedain people's existence and life-style in post-Arnorian Eriador. Note that I'm focused on the people and not the Rangers. How these people differ (if they do) in their daily life and thought processes from the existence of their military arm - the Rangers.

Maybe an examination of Angmarim natives (ie, the people who supported the Witch-king's rise to power). Maybe a write-up of the Rhudaur, juxtaposing pre- and post- Arnorian life. Maybe provide a PC race and limited background (just one: Returnee?) for those who leave off service to the Iron Crown, including harrowing stories of how they managed to escape service without being discovered.

Or maybe a bit of a geographical exploration. Describe how the Trollshaws fits into the terrain and ecology of the larger region of this portion of Middle-earth. Give me viable settlement patterns. Perhaps showing where the Rhuduar once were and what has become of those settlements since that time? What tribe of Trolls did Bilbo's Trolls come from? Where were they normally settled (because, remember, these three left their own in order to eat better... or so we thought?) and what caused them to leave?

Don't focus on the primary person/race/geography/whatever and redo what has already been done (ad nauseum, I might add) before. Find a way to make it new and interesting. Keep all known canon facts; just learn how to tweak and/or embroider on them.

Geekdad,
As I understand the scope of the "Rivendell" product release in it's current incarnation, it may focus more on eastern Eriador. I'm not sure if Bree, the Shire, the Blue Mountains or the Gray Havens will be included, let alone their extent. No, I don't have a crystal ball. The odd comment has been posted about the project, including the fact that "Rivendell" is a just a WIP codename.

Everyone thanks for your replies. What I was attempting to accomplish with this thread was to inspire some MORE FAN produced material. I have been so impressed with the fan work so far that I would love to seem some more of it.

For example Garn's Dunedain and Angmarim suggestion below.

Or, even the standard cultural representation of Breelanders, Mithlond Elves, Wandering Companies, Dwarves of the Blue Mountains, Dunlandlings, Gondorians, Dorwinionians, and people of Khand, Harad, Far Harad, and etc..

So here is the clarion call!

I prefer to use official "fluff" and source material, but greatly enjoy fan-made additional or alternative rules and "crunch" material. I greatly enjoyed the work that has been made on mounted combat, additional villains, new backgrounds, magic rules, alternate journey rules (not sure whether to consider Francesco as a fan...) and the like.

So for me, more along these lines. When it comes to cultures and source material, I tend to use official products. I've got to admit that the quality of fan-made material here is way above the normal however, I might reconsider...

I've been half-expecting alternative Standing rules by now, one that would work similarly to how virtue and wisdom grant you mechanical advantages. Guess I'll have to start working on it...

One thing we could probably all use is semi-generic s with adventure seeds. So it might go something like:

QUOTE ("Rhovanion: Beorning Village")
Generic Beorning Village
<Village> is a below average village among the Beornings. It has been attacked a short time ago (less than a month) and suffered a few losses, both villagers, animal friends, and to the village buildings as well.

The village's palisade has been breached in two places. The gate has been damaged and will require extensive repairs if it is to provide security for the remainder of the inhabitants. Also, along the southeast section, a half-dozen of the timbers have been cut through, providing a large opening. Any larger and you could ride a horse through it without ducking!

<Villager1> lives closest to this opening and has reported to the <Elder1> that he has seen and heard strange sounds late at night coming from the vicinity. While he has been vigilant, he cannot guard the opening each and every night - he must get some sleep if he is to provide for his family.

<Villager2>, who is <Villager1's> neighbor, has offered to watch the opening, but everyone in <Village> knows that he is a bit unreliable. Tending to get distracted easily and forgetting about other duties. He means well, but he's young.

The village hall is the most substantially damaged building. Once the palisade was breached, everyone fell back to the hall. The roof thatch caught fire and, before it could be doused, burned a considerable area. Everything within <number> feet has burned, nearly to the ground. This problem may have worked to the Beornings' favor during the fighting as the fire was too hot to allow passage. Which meant they were able to post a single guard there while moving the other defenders to more endangered s. No other fires occurred within the village.

See what I mean? I know it's not perfect and could be substantially expanded.

Note that their are few hard facts. Who attacked? Did they start the fire? Or did a villager, maybe by accident? Is the opening being watched? Who or what is watching it? Is the watcher the original attacker or something else?

This leaves the real details to the LM but provides enough material for them to build upon if, for instance, maybe a Hazard is rolled and the LM just cannot think of anything. Or the players must have had a Nazgul inflict the Black Breath on their dice (ie, they're rolling Eye after Eye after Eye) and the LM thinks they need some kind of break. Anyway the idea is to leave lots and lots of dangling bits so that no two LM's will play this same village in the same manner.

LM1: <Villager2> is in league with Sauron and he cut an opening in the rear palisade wall to allow the orcs inside.
LM2: A mage and some raiders attacked the village thinking they were an easy target.
LM3: Somewhere nearby, hidden within the eaves of the darkening woods, is a spider which has overcome its natural fear of fire. While it cannot create fire, it is capable of intelligently using any fire source nearby.
LM4: As the War of the Ring approaches, more and more people are driven from their homes and the village was attacked by a mob of refugees, too fearful and hungry to ask for aid.
LM5: A group of wild men attacked the village, during the commotion <Villager3> lost their head and kicked a hot coal from the fire against the wooden walls of the hall.
LM6: While an assault on the gate was underway, <Villager1> turned craven and tried to cut his way out the back. Now he claims something is out there to divert suspicion.
LM7: Goblin WargRiders attacked the village as they carry out random raids through the area. However, something is watching that inviting hole in the rear palisade section. It will risk entering very, very soon...
LM8: Two young drakes noted this isolated village and chose it as the for a convenient meal. The less intelligent one attacked the gate and was fairly seriously injured but will recover (after a short-ish nap, say a decade) while his more intelligent brother cut his way in through the back and set fire to the hall.

Anyway, just a thought.

I can't really add anything to the list of supplements, as I really don't have the background knowledge to make any suggestions...though some of the lesser know cultures would be interesting. What I am hoping for as the game unfolds is that they keep their focus on the area of the TOR as it stands now. We all know how the lands of the South (Gondor, Rohan, etc.) all reacted to the coming of the Shadow and the events of the WotR. What I would like to see is what happend when the War came to the Elves of Mirkwood, and the Dwarven holds in the North. I hope they (C7) takes the opportunity to open up a whole new front in the War of the Ring.
