For myself it would be a Ranger of the North and a Scholar of Gondor. Perhaps a Breelander.

All of them!!!!

If I had to pick some though, they'd be:

1) Rangers of the North
2) Noldor and/or Sindar Elves
3) Rohirrim

We have fan made versions of all these already but there's nothing quite like having the 'official' versions, is there.

Yes, those fan made versions are quite good, but the latter part of your statement holds true.

I'm waiting for the Dunedain, men of Bree, and the Elves Rivendell.

Moreso, I hope that they come packaged with an expansion of the setting. Don't want a Ranger of the North in Wilderland.

Would love to see the Noldor, but they don't really have any place in TOR, as Galadriel and Glorfindel are the only 2 that I can think of in Middle Earth by this time. Rivendell and Lorien would be great to see though.

Official Rohan. The fan based stuff is really good, but I want to see what C7 comes up with.

Definitely Rangers and the Elves of Rivendell... and real Rohirrim.

Is it bad that I feel very proud of myself when I see that you guys like my work? tongue.gif

Maybe! But I get a buzz about myself and my work when others say they like it - which is what you might mean instead? I think everyone does - it makes the effort put in worthwhile if others appreciate what you've done.

Hmm.... I think I'm most looking forward to detailed information (culture, setting, etc) for the following races, in no particular order:
  • Woses
  • The other 6 Clans of the Dwarves
  • Petty Dwarves - and why they're mishapen
  • Dunlendings
  • Gwaithrim - pre-Dunlending people, still extant I believe in the woods W/NW of Enedwaith
  • Umbar
  • Harad
  • Khand
  • Rhun
  • Dorwinion
  • and the rest of the world outside of north-western Middle-earth.
I realize that the majority of this material is quite likely specifically excluded from being used due to licensing constraints. It is not that I dislike the Noldor, Rangers, et al. It's just that I've been there, done that, got the shirt even though it's kinda faded now, and the mug broke, and the ring is... well, according to my wife that bright and shiny bauble only allows me to Rule Myself - when she doesn't have some more pressing chore for me.

Now, if you'll excuse, I apparently forgot to complete several of the chores on today's To Do list. Let's see... item #2 of 37...

Err, but I'm not looking forward to everyone. I'm looking forward to everyone else.

Really though, I am actually looking forward to more of the obscure races of Middle-earth than the obvious tried-and-true races that we all know from the stories. Nothing wrong with them and I still expect material covering those races as well. But I would rather see some new development rather than just "more of the same".

The difficulty with those races/cultures is that not only are they likely outside of the license, there is so little information about many of them that it's going to be pretty challenging to build them out of Tolkien's work rather than create them from whole-cloth.

Thanks for the links Rich!

When they release Rivendell (or whatever they rename it), I hope they include a background for some type of Dúnedain Seers or the like - with Cultural Rewards similar to the Wood Elf Magic or Dwarven Forgotten Spells. Hey, you asked for our wish list wink.gif

For late 3rdAge Player-Hero Cultures I'd most like to see (in no particular order):
Rangers of the North
Sindarin Elves (of Imladris, Lorien, Lindon, etc)
Riders of the Mark
Soldiers of Gondor (inc. Knights of DolAmroth, Gondorian Marines, etc)
Rangers of Ithilien
Dunlendings
Dunedain Sages (both Seers of the North and Scholars of Gondor)

Detailed for LM purposes (in 3rdAge anyway) I'd like to eventually see:
Peredhel (half-elves)
Noldor
Druedain (Woses)
Umbareans (Black Numenoreans & Corsairs)
Haradrim
Easterlings (Rhun) & Variags (Khand)

Not sure I need detailed work on the Dorwinrim - as I see them as a mix of Northmen and Easterling cultures.

Actually I am not waiting for any new cultures. I love the current setting and the Wilderness theme of TOR. So I want more Mirkwood, Vales of Anduin and the Woodmen stuff. Also Dale. And we really need a nice book on Lonely Mountain and dwarves!

I may have spelled their name wrong, Tolkien Gateway has it as Gwathuirim. Encyclopedia of Arda has no mention of them in the quick check I performed - they might be there under some other heading though. They are a pre-Edain and pre-Numenorean off-shoot culture.

When the Numenoreans were at the height of their power, sailing around Middle-earth and establishing colonies everywhere, it was these people that were inhabiting the forests of Eriador. Keep in mind that this was at a time when most of the forest as Treebeard knew it was still in existence (ie, no Old Forest yet, because it was still part of The Forest).

The Numenoreans, in order to fulfill their exploration, deforested almost the entirety of Eriador. This caused a schism among the forest-dwelling humans, with many taking exception to the Numenorean activities, instigating what amounts to a blood-feud, and eventually led to their being recognized as a separate people - the Dunlendings.

The ones I'm talking about however are the folk who chose not to participate in this blood-feud.

BTW, these folks were, at the very least, the off-spring of proto-Edain. I remember reading something about one of the reasons for misunderstanding between the Numenoreans and the Gwathuirim/Dunlendings was something to do with differences in language. The G/D were speaking a lingual off-shoot from a pre-Westron base.

It is fairly likely that Tolkien merged them into the Numenorean settlers coming into Eriador (along the Brandywine and the Greyflood). But I've assumed that their would still be some holdouts living in the remains of the original forest within the confines of it's remnants - Eryn Vorn and whatever forest is at the mouth of the Greyflood. They might also be extant in other places if they abandoned the forest remnants. Probably southern Eriador, around Tharbad and south/southwest; Minhiriath and western Enedwaith were their original homes.

Unfortunately this is all I recall of them and might be all that was ever created about them. Definitely Appendix, Silmarillion or HoMe material.

The reason they, and the other races mentioned, are of interest to me is simply that I find the idea that the Numenoreans conquered the world and completely wiped-out the people and all traces of those cultures to be ridiculous. I'm not saying they didn't try, just as we did in our own world, but that these other cultures still exist in some form - even if its some remnant of a holiday, certain symbols, or legends or what have you.
