What do we have for fan-written scenarios? Is Cubicle 7 going to encourage scenario writing maybe through a contest or anything?

Our group quickly goes through most scenarios and I'd like to see more from the fans (as well as official), including conversions/updates of other versions of LotR RPGs.

What do we have in regards to this?

These should be updated to RPGGEEK.com

Having reference download links handy would be ..uh..handy smile.gif I think all we have right now are rules-reference documents.

I was only able to find two scenarios for this game then:
Here's James' http://dl.dropbox.com/u/39184129/TOR/Werewolf%20Synopsis.pdf (5 pages)

I searched everywhere for those other creatures but it appears the enemy got to them first (no download links)

Cool: So we have three fan-written scenarios in English and one in Spanis that I can find links to.
Here's the fixed link to the PDF above:

Here's a link to one in Spanish (you can google translate):

It appears that TOR is in dire need of more fan participation in the form of scenario writing smile.gif

Also, everyone's heard of Drobox for archiving their stuff right? wink.gif

Most definitely! Writing is time consuming, but very much needed from the fan base. I am looking into creating a quick format for TOR adventures. Words of the Wise is a pretty good model for this. It provides a part for each of the heroic ventures: journey, encounter, and combat.

James that's a great idea. Most of the authors I've worked with for various game systems say that having a standard format really helps!

Also, with there being the "Savage Worlds" used version of "One-Sheets" it makes it easy to at least put a skeleton together if a person doesn't have to make a full fledged scenario. I myself prefer a full-version, but I think we will take what we can get this early on.

I myself have no experience writing for TOR, but only with other game systems (WFRP, D&D, Pathfinder, CoC, and Conan essentially).

OP, I believe this will link to a French scenario: http://www.studio09.net/index2.php?option=...&view=book&id=8

This was posted earlier in another thread. My French is, well, non-existent but it seems to be considered good by several of our Francophone forum members.

Obviously, I'll let other, more qualified members, decide on its merit.

Also, this raises an interesting point - given we have a French and Spanish adventure, would anyone be interested in translating either (or, if nothing else, providing an outline)?

Translation should be as simple as copying the text and applying google translate..but an official version sure would be nice smile.gif

Not really a complete scenario, more of a synopsis, but I wrote this:
http://cubicle7.clicdev.com/f/index.php?tr...topic=3409&st=0

I'm very slowly turning the synopsis into a real scenario. I have been interspacing adventures from TfW with events from this plot-line, and it works decently well using the same Big Bad behind everything (I'm trying not to spoil anyone here regarding the big bad from TfW).

Good stuff. I've helped a lot of people finish scenarios over the years (mostly with my work with the RPGA and Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay), and I've found that doing the following works the best for finishing something that you want to have people download:

1. Write a step-by-step plot on how you /think/ it will go and then flesh it out in step 2 (below).

2. Lay it out in Standard Scenario Format:
.Title Page with author name, blurb
.Scenario Background (keep it concise)
.Play Synopsis (step by step..usually 10 step process or thereabouts) - this is one or two sentences giving away the plot for each encounter
.Adventure Hooks
.Encounter play by play (for example 10 encounters with "read aloud text" if necessary, then GMs text, and monster book reference page number if there's a monster or something you don't want to stat out)
.Scenario maps (or reference to an official map)
.Appendix for any combatant NPC statistic blocks
.Appendix for player handouts

3. When you're all done filling it into your scenario format, go back and re-write your "step by step" play synopsis because things change.

Hints: Don't stat out monsters that can be referenced in the monster book. Never stat out non-combatant non-player characters. TRUST that a GM running your scenario doesn't need too much detail (this saves you a lot of work and also lightens up on the GM's headache of having to read an excess of fluff text.

Here's a link to a "how to" podcast on the subject: My Webpage

Lastly: You don't have to do a step by step encounter layout, but if you want other GMs to run your scenario it makes it a lot more playable and readable (and more easily prepped). A GM knows what to do when the players get 'off track' so you don't need to write a novel trying to come up with every eventuality. If you don't like "Encounter" layout, you can write them out in acts or whatever, but the organization is still similar.

Best,
