Hi guys!

Do anyone know if there are any maps of Woodland Hall and info about how many inhabitans who lives there. Is it just one large house with 100 ppl living in it och 20 houses plus a large Hall?

Anyone?

I've supposed the following. A stockade around a settlement containing several family sized dwellings. A large, central, Great Hall for feasts (common meals) with a back room for the chief/lord's family. Guests would sleep in the great hall, though a guest house/hall may also be possible.

Yes that is what picure too. A pallisade wall, and some kind of hedge (dunno if it's close to the pallisade it shuld be on the inside, and if not on the other side of the river to not make a disadvantage if they where under attack.

And a big hall for feast and moots and guests and then a number of family homes.

I imagine the Hall itself would be something like a Vilking's longhouse

@ Venger - Yes thats what I feel too it will look like with some little tweak. And a wooden pallisade around the village.

I re-watched the 13th Warrior the other day. People will like it or dislike it, but it does display a very good (IMHO) woodsman's village / town.

Although armour technology looks a bit "above" TOR's, I like the fact that all 12 northmen warriors wear mismatched armours, many being obvious loot/trade/spoils of battle (old roman helmet etc), which it what I would assume of a society with a frugal economy like the Woodsmen of Mirkwood.

I must admit I love that movie, despite all its flaws. I agree with you, just add more trees.

Btw, The Heart of the Wild features information on all the main Woodman settlements, with pictures.

It'll be interesting to see if my interpretation of Stonyford (TfW) as a carrog is correct. I had the village jutting in to the river itself, with the watchtower on the river bank.

Its on my to-do list. I just saw that I can watch the first three episodes on their website, so I'll check it out weekend.

I love viking culture - so thanks for sharing.

it's a really good show so far.

Also, for those who lean this way, here is what I do for visual aids for my players:

I play Skyrim and run around taking screenshots...Bethesda's artistic interpretation of everything (except for dwarves) has a great, dark , gritty Middle-earth feel to it.

I do the same with LotRO. I used Neverwinter Nights II shots years ago for city screenshots. They had the coolest looking towns. I created my own city of Cauldron for NWNII on using the Builder program (I was unemployed at the time and had LOTS of free time on my hands) and would show a virtual tour when we played Shackled City campaign which I ran back in 3.5 D&D days from '07-'09.

While you're all on a roll about Viking films & series, this chap does a fairly good job of reviewing what's out there - he's given me some great ideas for Middle-earth:
