Will you marry me?
Re: Will you marry me?
I changed "the pretended" to "the beloved one". Is that understandable?
-------------
So Shanker has become the preferred NPC of everyone. Now Amaleolda is becoming the preferred wife of Darkening.

In completely unrelated news, one of my favorite songs is the Foo Fighters "The Pretender".
And in a super hero campaign I play in (using the Marvel Heroic Roleplaying system) my hero's name is the Pretender. He's got the ability to conjure up whatever the heck he wants, though what he conjures are completely invisible to everyone else (suddenly he's holding an invisible bazooka, which he takes out the fleeing alien ship with!)

Adventure Summaries for my long-running group (currently playing through The Darkening of Mirkwood/Mirkwood Campaign), and the Tale of Years for a second, lower-level group (in the same campaign).

Re: Will you marry me?
Someone else in these forums wrote up rules on Courtship, Marriage, and starting a Family. They are more in-depth than these, and I believe they are based off of Pendragon.
I like the rules a lot and hope to make use of them as a player.

Curious. No mention at all of using Persuade or Inspire? I'd think someone highly skilled in Persuade would have an excellent chance of courting a beau.Falenthal wrote:Courtship (Encounter variant)
Introduction: Use Awe, Courtesy or Riddle, as usual.

I think that would go into the Interaction part of the Encounter, but not in the Introduction.midnightyell wrote:Curious. No mention at all of using Persuade or Inspire? In the Encounter rules, Introduction always is limited to Awe, Courtesy or Riddle.
As I wanted to give a different flavour to the Encounter rules, but not creating new ones, I just sticked to the RAW.
But, of course, a nice roleplaying by a player can change that. I can imagine someone singing his name and intentions to the beloved one from under her balcony...

Fair enough and certainly makes sense.Falenthal wrote:I think that would go into the Interaction part of the Encounter, but not in the Introduction.

A possibly interesting suggestions:
*Jealous Spouse. You could add a Tolerance to the Spouse. If the hero spends too much time in the company of an unmarried member of the opposite sex, he could risk upsetting his spouse and may have to spend the next year end's phase repairing his relationship. Returning with Treasure or Raising Standing could mitigate this, depending on the personality of the spouse he marries. (But only if you and the player really want to get in depth with this mechanic.)
*Hazard: Unfaithful If he were to try to undertake "Courtship" in another locality when already married or were seduced during a bout of madness or something, (some people enjoy chaotic characters!), they gain the trait "Cheating Bastard" and have to roll to avoid the encounter "outraged & spited lover" and should probably gain some permanent Shadow as well.
I'm thinking of Odysseus and all those times he really wanted to stay faithful to his wife Penelope, but somehow kept going astray.

Probably depends on how far away the wives are from each other. In the extreme case of one in Dale and one in Rohan, they'll...probably never meet.
Elves, on the other hand, shouldn't try it. When you live forever, you're gonna get caught.

Plus it creates problems for Mandos. One should not cause problems for Mandos; one is likely to get another Feänor.Angelalex242 wrote:Probably depends on how far away the wives are from each other. In the extreme case of one in Dale and one in Rohan, they'll...probably never meet.

Jacob Rodgers, occasional nitwit.

Indeed. Even if you don't get caught in Middle Earth, eventually, you and your wives will travel to Valinor. And then you're screwed.
