Great stuff.
I once played with someone who was so sensitive to the 'children in danger' trope that he simply declared children would never appear 'on-camera', so as to prevent any possibility of them coming to harm.
I'm not so sensitive myself (though I generally avoid it), but then again, I've only got three kids myself.

Well, my 12 year old...
Let's just say that it's nice for all of us that Grandpa just took him to Key West yesterday.

Mountain Hall is a long way to go for a Merchant of Dale to get minerals (what with Erebor and the Iron Hills so close).
Yes, I agree, I thought about that myself. Here was my thought process:I was trying to figure out a way to get a wealthy young boy (Princely Reward) to a Great Hall and defend him from slavers. The Viglunding slavers operate out of the East Upper vales and there are no prosperous or rich cultures in the Anduin vales. I had already kidnapped a dwarf last adventure, and so I thought of having him be the son of a Barding diplomat. I admit there are some weakness to the plot, but if I was going to incorporate it into a campaign, I'd find a way to make it work or modify it along the lines of one of your suggestions.
I need to write a few more of these. Still in the learning stages.
