Multiple Patrons

The unique One Ring rules set invites tinkering and secondary creation. Whilst The One Ring works brilliantly as written, we provide this forum for those who want to make their own home-brewed versions of the rules. Note that none of these should be taken as 'official'.

Multiple Patrons

Post by Angelalex242 » Mon May 18, 2015 3:26 am

Borrowing from Rich H's patron rules, it seems possible to get many important people on the party's side. What does it mean, Statuswise, if one manages to acquire multiple patrons? Sure, there's minor benefits, and there's one major benefit at a time...

But if a High Elf, say, manages to acquire patronage from Radagast, Thranduil, Saruman, Elrond, and Gandalf...

That's almost the entire White Council.

I've got one of my PCs with most of the people on that list as Patrons. He's done enough and raised his renown (though valorous deeds) that he's probably someone discussed by the White Council (which in my game is just about to meet for the last time).
Adventure Summaries for my long-running group (currently playing through The Darkening of Mirkwood/Mirkwood Campaign), and the Tale of Years for a second, lower-level group (in the same campaign).

Wait..wait...What?!?! Why is the White Council meeting for the last time? What's about to happen?

OMG spoilers.

My guess is that his campaign has reached the year TA 2953 and he is referencing Tolkien's legendarium. That is assuming that his campaign has not gone off on some alternate-reality tangent.

It's possible that my attempt at humor, in the form of feigned ignorance, fell short.

With myself, at least. Sorry about that! I ought to have realized that you would know better.

Still, having most of the big shots of Middle Earth as patrons would put the PCs in a unique position.

But there is also a downside to having a lot of patrons - the player somehow has to please both Gandalf AND Saruman - I think that is an impossible task, myself :D

Depends on how evil Saruman is at the time. In the area most campaigns are set, he's got about 2 permanent Shadow Points. (with flaws)

LM characters don't have Shadow points.
