Where did you get the reference that the seeing stone of Elostirion was returned with the Ringbearers? I was under the impression that the tower & stone stayed so that those few elves that remained could still see Eldamar...

I prefer Cirith Helevorn BTW - makes sense given the tower is Ost Helevorn....

I'm having trouble finding a primary source for the fate of the Elostirion-stone. The citations I do have come from both Robert Foster's The Complete Guide to Middle-earth and J.E.A. Tyler's The Complete Tolkien Companion. If you prefer that the Stone remains in Middle-earth until the sailing of the Last Ship, there is some support for that interpretation.

I think, after-all, that there may be only one pass through the Blue Mountains north of the Lesser Lune. It would be far too distant from Mt. Rerir and the site of Lake Helevorn to attach the name Cirith Helevorn to it. Just the one pass dubbed Cirith Forod works fine for me.

It's in Appendix A (iii), Eriador, Arnor, and the Heirs of Isildur, The North-kingdom and the Dúnedain of LOTR, 1042. See Note 2.

Ah!
The only Stone left in the North was the one in the Tower on Emyn Beraid that looks over the Gulf of Lune. That was guarded by the Elves, and though we never knew it, it remained there, until Círdan put it aboard Elrond's ship when he left (I, 54, 119).
There's almost always someone who has the answer if we only know who to ask!

I just wanted to note that I wrote up a supplement for the Shire after all and wouldn't mind some feedback on it (and I wanted an excuse to bump this up to the top of the page).
