Probably it would be better to call it Concussion weapons or such.Otaku-sempai wrote:Don't be a smart guy. All the tools I listed could reasonably be assumed to be common in some part of Middle-earth. It was Falenthal, not myself, who was actually suggesting a tools category.
Only that Mattock->Diggers and Hammer->Smiths seemed like such a pretty parallelism for Dwarves that it felt a shame to let it go.
But, as said, I never saw the real need for this weapons or a simple way to make it happen without twisting everything too much.

The military pick would probably be the best choice for a one-handed weapon that would include the mattock as part of its weapon group.Falenthal wrote:Probably it would be better to call it Concussion weapons or such.

Pick
Damage: 4
Edge: 10
Injury: 16
Encumbrance: 1
Called Shot: Break Shield
Balance: 0
I suppose a pickaxe could split the difference--unless you have a better suggestion?
Pickaxe
Damage: 4 (1h); 6 (2h)
Edge: 10
Injury: 16 (1h); 18 (2h)
Encumbrance: 2
Called Shot: Break Shield
Balance: 0

A long-hafted hammer, used to smash big rocks when opening tunnels... and crush metal armored orcs to a pulp.Otaku-sempai wrote: I suppose a long-hafted pick could split the difference--unless you have a better suggestion?
Re: Toward a Theory of Weapon Stats
I'm in a hurry now, but the 2h version could look like this:
War Hammer 2H
Damage: 6
Edge: 9
Injury: 18
Encumbrance: 3
Called Shot: Smash Shield
Two-handed Close Combat
Balance: 0
And the 1h would resemble this:
War Hammer 1H
Damage: 6
Edge: 10
Injury: 16
Encumbrance: 3
Called Shot: Smash Shield
Balance: 0
Would have to look at the Long Sword and Long-hafted Axe for parallelism, though.

I think that your long-hafted hammer would be effectively the same as a maul, which has been covered earlier. And I think that hammers would have their own weapons group, separate from picks and the mattock.
(Picks)

- Pickaxe
- Mattock
(Hammers)
- Warhammer
- Long-hafted warhammer?

To build a "versatile" weapon according to the two precedents (Longsword and Long-hafted Axe) with the calculator you have to:
1) Build a 1H version with Balance: 0
2) Build a 2H version that has higher encumbrance, damage, and injury and Balance: 0
3) Average the Encumbrance, then average the Damage for 2H use.

Re: Toward a Theory of Weapon Stats
Well, as my write-up for a pickaxe would show a Balance of +1 as a one-handed weapon and -1 as a two-handed weapon, I could still say that it carries a net balance of 0 as they cancel each other out. That might be too messy for your liking, but it works for me.Glorelendil wrote:To build a "versatile" weapon according to the two precedents (Longsword and Long-hafted Axe) with the calculator you have to:

Re: Toward a Theory of Weapon Stats
It make sense from a realistic point of view. My only concern with this groups is that (Hammers) hasn't got any presence in the existing cultures. Maybe it could be a starting option for Blue Mountain Dwarves?Otaku-sempai wrote:I think that your long-hafted hammer would be effectively the same as a maul, which has been covered earlier. Also, as for the name of the different hammers, it could just be Hammer, Warhammer and Maul. It seems easier, doesn't it?
