Then the question is: who suffers the penalty if the hazard is "failed". Again, it could be the companion but Endurance/Weary/Miserable aren't relevant.Wbweather wrote:For hazards, ideally the player would make all the rolls. Of course, the player isn't filling all of the travel roles and will have weaknesses that will prevent him from doing well at them. Perhaps a solution is that the player has to assist the targeted companion. So for example, if the hunter gets a hazard, the player might be able to assist with a different skill(craft to help make a trap, awareness to notice some game), perhaps invoking the companion's traits for a bonus die? Maybe that doesn't work, but I agree that companions shouldn't be rolling dice.

I would expect most hzazards should affects player heroes. If a hazard "affects" a companion than the result should probably be smething along the lines of the companion being unavailable for a time, somehow. Something like he got hurt and the player heroe doesn't get the benefits of the companion until he recovers.
Companions might also be given a Hope score, and it could be spent in order for a player to use on the companion's abilities. Hope loss could also be used as a penalty for a failed hazard test. For example, let's say that a hero had a compaion who helped with travel rolls. If the player invokes the "Companion bonus" (whatever it happens to be) on the roll and fails, then the Companion could suffer Hope loss as a consequence.
